I was just arranging a catch up call with three friends from university and realised that only one still lived in the same area where he grew up (with the other three of us being in the U.K., EU and the US respectively.

I was wondering what percentage of people on here still live close to where they grew up or whether most people have moved away.

Same County but not near where I grew up in Huddersfield, used to be a nice town, now it's a complete dump, I never go there other than to see my parents and sister who all still live there in the valleys, even they don't go into the Town centre, preferring to travel out to other areas for their shopping.

First and second houses were both just over 2 miles from where I grew up, albeit in different directions.

Now I’m 10 miles away which was the ideal location for work, schools and house at the time we moved.

As and when we do move next, it’ll either be about 15 miles south of here, or a longer relocation within the Uk.

I have lived in the same town my entire life (43 years) and its been good, no problem at all. It has gone downhill a bit and will continue to, what with the imminent housing expansion.

The last year or so though its started to feel a bit weird, i know everyone, everyone knows me, even people i don't know hehe everyone knows everyones business and i find that odd as well.

We are due to move very soon, but its only 7 miles away hehe i can't go too far as the majority of the work i do is in the town i currently live, buts it far enough that it feels very different.

I am always admire when people decide to move a thousand miles away, then move another thousand miles away. Really living their life and seeing different cultures. My life has been pretty boring really.

Difference city but same region. For me it’s the right balance between independence and being close to support aging relatives.

My parents moved half the length of the country straight after school (Midlands from East Sussex, go figure), and all of my school mates moved to different corners of the country.

I grew up in Farnborough, then moved a few miles away to Fleet. Spent the first 48 years there, now living on on the North Wales border for the last 12 years.

I've lived in 2 continents, 9 places and 16 different houses in 50 years.
The latest place (and job) I've now been at for 11 years. Amazing.

Grew up in Streatham, moved to Surrey at 15, Sussex when I got married, France when I retired, Norfolk when I'd had enough of France and couldn't afford to go back to Sussex. No chance of ever wanting to live remotely near London again!

I live 1.7 miles from the house I grew up in (which I moved out of at 27), so I've certainly not ventured far.

My parental home was in west London near the Hoover factory, but for the last few decades it's been south Buckinghamshire in three different location within a ten mile circle of each other. Children born in Taplow at the now defunct Royal Canadian Memorial Hospital in the grounds of Cliveden. No, we're not Canadian nor anything to do with the Astors!
