I'm crossing my fingers and going to try and earn a bit of money doing voiceover work.
I have friends doing it with some success, they will show me how to run everything, I can not anywhere near afford the computers they are using.
I would like as big a screen as I can get, by all accounts I need at least..... Windows, dual process, 64bit, 8 gig ram, 128gb storage.
Intel i3, i5, i7.
Some of that I have heard of.
Now this may be the killer.... My budget is £300.
Any suggestions much appreciated.

Audacity will run on any old junk.

What do you need a fanless laptop for? Are you thinking of using that to record?

If you are, you would be better off using a Zoom recorder of some kind and editing on the laptop.

You don't need that spec to record 1 channel.

You could record voice over stuff using an iPad with an interface and microphone.

Choice of microphone and recording environment is far more important than laptop

This. Get a specialised audio recorder and then edit the files in audacity on any computer. Doesn't need to be fanless as you'll be wearing headphones when you edit.

Presuming you've got at least some kind of computer, it may be worth (see how things go before spending the money) buying a bigger external screen for it and working on that.

I should have asked here in the first place, brilliant, thank you all.
I am making a small studio in the loft, all surfaces will be soft, I like my removals blanket walls and free carpet tiles, rug was already up there.
A friend gave me her spare microphone, Samson q2u, in exchange for fixing her Dyson vac and tip runs, mike boom will be bolted to the desk that I made from osb I had left over from building stage boxes.
