Any owners on here?

We've just got round to getting one, and the Owners Club website seems to be a little lacking in current info, shall we say?

Jeez, Maggit, what's the matter with you? Doesn't the Griffith oversteer enough or summat?

According to the 'fleet' tab under 'members', there are at least 5 Grinnall owners registered on Pistonheads.

Perhaps you could contact them through their profiles?

What a lovely choice. I am very envious of you. I looked at a Grinnall back in the late ninties.

It was a really super piece of kit and im suprised we dont see more of them.

Enjoy!!!!

Well, as they're all listed under "GrinnEll", I'm not surprised I can't find them!

I have a collection of bits which is making its way towards a being Scorpion. Happy to discuss my experience so far (1 month in!).

Yours is only about the third one I've heard of actually being built from a kit, most seem to be factory built.

There are a few about which have been built from kit, although most are from the "factory". I guess you have to both want to build a kit and really want a Scorp to do it this way...

It's expensive - I think mine (based on a 1200LT) will round at about £15k. There are lots of cheaper quality kits (after all a Caterham Classic costs less).

The factory build cost is about £2k so not a huge amount extra.

There's no real build manual - although everyone at the factory is very helpful.

Just remember you're dealing with a small British engineering outfit and everything will be fine!

We've bought a factory built one, in fact it's going back to Grinnalls in a couple of weeks as it was never registered, hence no SVA either, so Grinnall are putting it through for us, and servicing it as well.

We were at the Factory some years ago, when the one with all the fish painted on it was being finished. I have to say that they look relatively simple to build.

We're also getting some rotators with ours, which bolt to each end, then wind up and rotate the Scorpion along its axis. Should make changing the oil filter interesting!

Are you a member of the Owners Club, and is it worthwhile joining?

Nope, haven't join the club - like you I didn't see much activity and to be honest am not an "owners club" sort of a bloke!

I would recommend the yahoo email group (www.yahoogroups.com) as this seems to have a hard core of regulars who know stuff and are helpful at answering odd questions.

Interested to hear more about the rotators - I'm hoping to keep mine the right way up!!!

Bumped into another Grinnall Scorpion 3 owner tonight, he owns number 3! Very Green and Yellow it is, too.

I can't wait to get ours.

Picked "M" up yesterday, couldn't believe the number of people that wanted to talk about the Scorpion, the number of thumbs up (especially from bikers), grins, waves I (or rather "M" got. To anybody caught up in a jam on the A40 heading out of London about 12.30 yesterday, sorry, it was me and a guy on an XJR1200, with a bit of an argument between said XJR pilot and a Chevy People carrier, thrown in.

My mate has chassis number one, the prototype, which despite being a 8 valve 1000cc version, still goes really well. Another friend has 2 Scorpions, one of which I'm trying to prise from his fingers for a restoration. The unusual thing is, we all live in South West France.
