Secondary income- self employed
Discussion
Hi guys,
My wife is a teacher employed by the local authority via PAYE. She was working 3 days a week as our daughter hadn’t started school, but once our daughter did start at school my wife took some tutoring work at another school on the other two days- this was on a self employed basis.
She was subsequently given the chance to go back full time at her main job and therefore stopped the tutoring work. We’ve just totted up the total income she received for this work and it’s just over £900- there will be no more of this income in the tax year. Are we right in interpreting the self assessment rules that because this income was under £1,000 there is no return due?
For reference she’s on high £40ks for her full time role, if that makes any difference. No problem if there is anything due, it would just save the hassle of a self assessment more than anything!
Thanks for your help.
