I’m having a get together with some friends at the aforementioned location but I need some recommendations of where to eat. One of them is quite fussy so ideally British pub food is what I’m looking for but I’m open to other suggestions. We used to be students of the university but that was several years ago.

I'd be tempted to get a taxi up to Lindley and go to Erics.

+1

Watching with interest as that's the only suggestion I could make.

Hmmm,

In the centre itself I'g go to either Harvey's, Gringo's or maybe Botafogo but that place can be hit and miss. Harvey's might be your best choice.

As others have said there's not much in the town centre itself if you're after proper decent food in a nice restaurant environment, all the nicer places are in the various surrounding villages.

Must be a while since you’ve been to Gringo’s - it’s dire these days. Last time I called in with a couple of mates a few months ago and it was cash only with no beer and the place was filthy so we spun around. Don’t think it will be around for much longer. It used to be great.

The Lantern Room in Lindley is better than Eric’s which is overrated in my experience (The Scullery as mentioned is better too and fits to OP’s brief).

Erics, Lantern Room, Harveys as previously mentioned

Prob better if possible to get just outside of Hudds and go to Da Sandros https://dasandro.co.uk/ or if you are feeling a bit more adventurous, Holmfirth is much better for eating out.

Yeah it's a very long time TBH, sounds like it's gone really downhill as like you say it used to be great, shame.

The Scullery is a really good shout, forgot about that place, not actually been but heard good stuff and it's also close to Magic Rock for drinks before/after...
