The Couple Next Door - C4

That’s got to be one of the worst things I’ve watched in ages.
Bizarrely set in the Leeds /Bradford area with accents to boot but lots of the scenes filmed on an upmarket estate in Belgium/Netherlands with Palm trees in the front gardens, then cuts to stone built Yorkshire scenes.
Bizzare..and just did my swede in..
I don’t think I’ll be watching episode 2 !!

I wondered if there would be any comment on this. What an absolutely rubbish program!!
It looked like they’d tried to make the program appear as if it was anywhere other than UK-based. A bit like Sex Education, but at the same time a bit like one of those dire Channel 5 Christmas movies
Everything that was happening in the espisode was so blatantly telegraphed in advance even I could have a good stab at how it’s going to unfold!
The accent of the police motorbiker was all over the place, and Hugh Dennis looked like he’d got lost on the set of a different program and found himself in the wrong scenes!!
It was so bad my wife just spent half the time laughing at it. Her verdict was “it’s so bad, I’ve got to watch the next one”

Terrible so far, although we binged 3 episodes last night. Just background filler really.
The location choice was bizarre. Those houses look (in the UK at least) like £750k + so how on earth does a PC and a yoga teacher afford that.
Accent choice for Sam Heughan was bizarre (and his execution was crap).
The plot with the bent cops seems total nonsense as was the ambush scene.

The O/H and I watched the first two episodes last night and started watching the third, at which point we gave up.
There are far too many plots / twists and turns. It's almost as if the script has been written by several different scriptwriters, each with their own idea of what the plot should be.
And it's supposed to be based in Leeds, but yet all the filming at their houses is in Belgium, and yet we recognised several scenes around Leeds as well.
So why bother equipping all the incidental vehicles with UK registrations (which are evidently fake) instead of filming in the UK (if not in Leeds...).
And some of the scenes also depicted them driving on the wrong side of the road.
The series is a mess.

just SO bad !!
no idea how it was allowed through.......... just about made it through the first one mainly due to Eleanor Tomlinson (off of Outlaws and rather good in that !) but the rest, the police, sets, acting I really dont know where to start
Mrs mogsmex agreed was awful but she wanted to see how it turned out, we put on epsiode 2 but both couldnt do it and turned off after 5 minutes

For some reason we're ploughing on with this, curious what nonsense they come up with next really...
The location is really jarring, we assumed it was filmed in Australia going by the accents and just couldn't understand why they didn't just have the characters as ex-pats in whatever country they were filming it in? The roads are all wrong, the outside of the houses are wrong, the interior of the houses are wrong.
Slow-mo sex scenes are just weird.

Yes we are sticking with it to see if there is anything joined up in the plot. The location is really jarring, we assumed it was filmed in Australia going by the accents and just couldn't understand why they didn't just have the characters as ex-pats in whatever country they were filming it in? To me the street is very Australian then to hear them talking about being in Leeds blows my mind. No where in Leeds looks like that or has any danger of looking like that in our lifetimes!
It's a copy of a Dutch production and there's a lot of Dutch names in the credits, or Belgian.
The housing estate is abroad and you even see them driving on the 'wrong side'
In some shots you can see out of focus cars in the background with yellow plates on their front bumpers, which says Dutch to me.
Other scenes were shot in the UK.
Stick with it as it gets even dafter

What a bizarre ending, couldn't help feel that half the storylines just didn't go anywhere? Hugh Dennis didn't change anything, the bank robbery didn't change anything, the husband kissing his colleague didn't change anything, the husband's big scoop story didn't change anything. It could've been 2 episodes with 4 characters
Lol yes we are watching this, it is terrible but we are kind of hooked, I wondered about the housing estate and where it was actually located, I just couldn't put my finger on what was wrong, it was almost like it was done on purpose, a kind of Stepford Wives type environment where everything is perfect, I also noticed the plug sockets were all circular.
Also why is everyone in such big houses, the kitchen in one of them is tiny, all the furniture in the red heads house is old and just doesn't go with them as a young trendy couple, many of the cars are actually pretty old.
I did laugh at the beach scene, it was clearly freezing cold and how did they manage to get the whole of the beach to themselves on a "hot" day!
It is crap but we will finish it.

It's on Walter Presents: The SwingersI think it's that one, there are so many random series on there I lose track. I only lasted I think two episodes of the original before binning it and about 1 on the UK redo.
