No wonder my brakes were juddering.

among the many personal experiences:
Picked up a new MB, and booked it in a couple of weeks later to have the headlight beams checked, appeared to be aiming too low. They said they checked them, and they were well within limits. I tried another dealership… same response.
And guess what was picked up as a fail with a charge for labour at the first MoT? Yep. Made them check the history, charge removed.
I have zero guilt attached to taking part in the dieselgate action against them. Poor quality cars, poor dealerships, arrogance, and even some of the independent specialists have adopted similar ways of operating.
Never again.

If thats the stae of the fronts, assuming this Merc still has the drum inside disc park brake i'd be inclined to have the rears off and inspect the park brake drum and shoes, i've seen them with such a high rust build up it almost sliced the park brake shoes in two, another where it was only rust holding the read pad friction material in situ, when removed they literally fell apart.
Very difficult on some cars to see rear disc faces if they have good dust shields, need mirror on stick and strong light, wide wheels make it just as difficult from underneath.

Yes, wasn’t sorry to see mine go, indie was getting increasingly annoying - all he wanted to do was fit MB branded parts. I offered to pay to service the brakes and he still wouldn’t do it. He got even worse when he started doing his own MOTs. Never again.

Sometimes wanting to fit "known" parts is not unreasonable.Likely been burnt many times in the past with aftermarket parts, many times. I'd doubt he wants to fit OEM parts because it is more profitable.

Recent brake job was aftermarket. Rear springs he quoted for MB and aftermarket but he obviously wasn't keen on aftermarket, so paid the (small) premium for the genuine article.

He had a bit of an epi when he couldn't get an exhaust section for my car from MB - alternative was half the price.
