Compressor fittings - education required

I bought a compressor from Screwfix many years ago; it has served me fine mostly for tyre pumping, but I now need to replace the air hose / add some fittings to it. I haven't a clue what the fixing types are - but they look like this:


Where do people buy compressor fittings - and are tools one standard fitting nowadays?

They look like Euro fittings. Can you add a picture of the connector on a hose or tool?

Apologies, busy few weeks! Anyhow, this is the end that plugs in to the compressor. I believe it's XF Male.


The orange hose is the crappy one that originally came with the compressor & is now leaking - so that's what I'm looking to replace.

I don't have many air tools - a tyre inflator and a brake bleeder (that never worked well). This is the connection arrangement on the other end of that hose at this time - not quick release, but rather a screwed connection (which is 1/4 BSP as most things seem to be):


My plan is to buy a new air line for a start. The one I've seen has XF connectors at each end - so male into the compressor & female to plug in the tools. Something like this:


So then I'd need tools that (eventually) have a male XF connector that I can just release when I want... thoughts?

When you buy air tools you buy to correct connectors for your air line

Yeah, ignoring the various less common options, there are two main competing fittings in use.

- 'UK standard' as PCL call it, longer and thinner.
- 'Euro' standard which is a bit shorter and fatter.

Personally I much prefer the Euro type, they seam to fit together better, maybe because there are less cheap copies, and have a larger bore which is good for high airflow things, which is basically anything!


PCL are the gold standard.
