This has been getting excellent reviews and I just rewatched Fury Road which I really enjoyed (more than my original viewing as I wasn't wondering WTF was going on this time around) ... so my interest is kindled. Especially since this essentially world-builds for Fury Road ... maybe they should have released it a bit nearer to the time of that movie.
The only thing putting me off is some very obvious-looking CGI in the trailers. I'm not against CGI and it's simply unavoidable in a post-apocalyptic action movie like this - but some of the scenes look soooo 'clean' and artificial compared to the gritty and grounded mix of practical effects and well-done CGI in Fury Road.

I really want to see this but my enthusiasm is somewhat tempered by the fact Fury Road was one of the few films I've ever switched off, given up on...I thought it was dreadful, truly bad. The only thing putting me off is some very obvious-looking CGI in the trailers. Watched it last night on IMAX (in Dubai)
Get the disappointment out of the way first, it isn't as good as Fury Road. (Then again, I rate Fury Road as the best action film since Aliens) But it is still excellent. Some non spoiler gripes:
- He's definitely mellowed, or the H&S rules in Australia are stricter than Namibia. A number of action scenes were clearly sped up/ CGI more obvious at times
- Chris Hemsworth teeters on and at times falls over the edge of parody - there's more than a hint of Captain Jack Sparrow in his acting. Note - I don't think this was a deliberate choice, but that Hemsworth is just a naturally comic actor who can't help but lightening up the protaganist. I think other actors would have played it straight or gone all in Joker
- It has no Nuc like redemption arc/ character growth.
Some non-spoiler likes:
- Leans even more heavily into being a saga/ myth. I.e. don't worry about the logistics of 1000's of bikers in a post apocalyptic outback. It's a saga. Heck, it even has eating fruit from a tree when Furiosa has to leave paradise…
- Action scenes are still amazing (if toned down from utterly insane)
- Anya Taylor Joy/ Alya Browne are excellent as the taciturn survivor thirsting for revenge.
It would make a fantastic double bill with Fury Road to be the complete Furiosa story (and the film acknowledges this, the end credits are key clips from that film)

Sometimes some exposition is needed.When I watched it again the other night, after reading loads of discussion and backstory on the internet over the years so I knew the context of the World it was taking place in, it was just an amazing movie.

Just got back from seeing it tonight. Really enjoyed it, there are loads of references to the first two original films (the good ones!) There’s even a five second cameo of the MM2 Interceptor!
There are loads of references to MM2, bits of dialogue, tanker chase etc.
Go and see it. You won’t be disappointed if you enjoy the MM series.

I am definitely going to see Furiosa because i love the Mad Max series, so far in order MM2, Fury Road, MM1, Thunderdome. Mad Max 2 is my favourite film of all time.
Although I am yet to see it apparently early viewing numbers are not that high despite good reviews all round.
Speculation seems to center on people becoming tired of the "Girl Boss" trope. This seems a shame as my impression from Fury Road and what I know of Furiosa is that the Furiosa character is a believable bad ass character (who happens to be female) in the same vain as Ripley or Sarah Connor, rather than a female who is inexplicably the best at everything she does that no could possibly hope to better?

I saw this at the weekend. I haven't seen Fury Road but am otherwise a fan of the Mad Max films.
I thought it was very good. The basic setup doesn't survive much questioning but "move on". Furiosa isn't an obnoxious girl boss. Starting as a child she does have a bit of an arc. Hemsworth does make the psycho baddie funny in places but it works well - he comes across as having a sense of humour rather than being played for laughs.

How heavily was this marketed? I know they went to Monaco and so on but I was basically oblivious that this was coming out until I saw published reviews, and I still haven't seen much (if any?) promos for it.
The film seems good, well received & has an established audience so the assumption has to be it's another example of a good film poorly marketed & released?

I had an entire IMAX to myself to watch it today and thought it was great, behind Fury Road a little as it's more emotion based and less one huge car chase but I loved the way it answered so many questions, for me at least.
I won't go on too much for fear of spoiling it for others but I'm hoping more people get out and watch it so we get "Mad Max: The Wasteland".
Much as I love the originals I'd love a remake of those too with the budgets of the newer ones.
I'm not drawn to a motorbike chariot any time soon but a Dementus' Six Foot or Furiosa's "Cranky Black" at the end would do nicely, I might take all the body panels off my car and fit some big bus wheels

I saw Furiosa last night and enjoyed it, but not as much as Fury Road. I think Fury Road had the edge because of the visceral mad energy of the thing, and things don't make as much sense when you slow down the story as in parts of Furiosa.
It also made me reconsider all the films in the series. My favourite is definitely the original Mad Max, mainly because it's a straight forward revenge movie and not actually in the Post Apocalyptic genre. That's easy to forget. The original has regular people in towns with cafes, a police force and regular jobs, but with law and order unraveling. I find that more interesting than the full-on fantasy of "savages in the wasteland". Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the other films but that switch in scenario between #1 and the others was a bit of a stretch.
