Hi all,

Recently acquired a ‘17 launch edition in the US with 8k miles. Have noticed the brakes have really inconsistent feel at low speeds, especially in city driving. There is a lot of initial pedal travel and then the brakes grab suddenly. Pushing through it at higher speeds they become more linear, but at low speed it’s a bit of a pain. I remember seeing Harry comment on it in his video about the car a while back, but have been surprised at how bad it is.

Has anyone been able to solve this issue with pads or other solutions?

Thanks in advance. I read a lot of posts on here before making my purchase decision so thank you, and looking forward to being part of the community.

I believe there was a software update for this issue? Same gripe with the early/ pre-production Vantage as well.

Welcome to DB11 ownership it is a great car. I had a MY17 from new so just after the launch edition and it definitely suffered from this initially. I soon learnt to moderate my low speed braking so they didn’t grab but it still occasionally caught me out on an incline or if I was tired and not concentrating. At some point it stopped doing it but I didn’t really notice when. I sold mine at 8k miles to get a DBX so it definitely went at lower miles than yours. At about 2 years old it started to suffer from brake squeal and the dealer had it in to changed some of the lubricant and I think resurfaced the discs or something- it was the AM fix for the squeal. Anyway the squeel disappeared for about 6 months and then occasionally came back but only very mildly. Not sure if the grabiness just went as the disks and pads wore in or if the work they did for the squeal solved it.

Loved the car for the 4.5 years I had it.

Change the pads to Porterfield pads, and bleed the brakes !

Not entirely, but it improved a fair bit after I did a proper bedding procedure like you do with race pads. 0-70-10 mph, 6 or 7 times. Gets the pads properly hot and allows for some transfer to the face of the disc. Make sure you don’t come to a complete stop during the runs or you risk leaving a pad material imprint on the disc which you’ll then need to correct by starting over. Hopefully it helps you. It made mine a little more predictable.
