fitting new rear dampers and springs

can anyone tell me if the rear springs and dampers are removed as one unit ( as on a motorcycle) or as two pieces? still waiting for a manual
any recomendations for replacement units?

Remove as one unit. Compress the spring while they are on the car and then remove, we use the nylon strap method as we do not do the shocks often enough to justify the spring compressors.

Oh forgot to mention the spring tension may contain lethal force so be very sure of what you are doing when removing the dampers from the spring.
