Best head shaver.

I currently just use some clippers without a guard but looking to go one better. I usually cut my hair once a week and takes about 5 minutes.
Are these head shavers worth it over normal clippers and if so which is best?

I have the one above, and a skullshaver.

The one above is great, but it's not like a clean shave... just very short with no guard.

Skull shaver for a clean dome is the way ahead. They really are great, and battery lasts for ages

How do you shave your face? If it is with a Gillette type razor why don't you just shave your head like your face. That's what I do. Saves a lot of hassle and is easy to do.

I've tried a few options over the years. I now just use a blade.

I do prefer a day old's stubble to clean shaven and will often shave the day before I have to be somewhere for that reason. But I've tried multiple options over the years like skull shavers. They invariably break and never do as good a job as a blade.

I've the Wahl Balding clippers. If you're happy with head stubble rather than clean shaven they're a good option and indestructible.

I have a Skull Shaver and Remington RX7. Bought both around this time last year.

The Skull Shaver has stopped working, it's completely dead. Won't charge, nothing displays on the LED when it's plugged in, won't turn on. I've emailed customer service as there is apparently a 2 year warranty, and haven't heard back. According to TrustPilot I'm not the only one, this thing dying after a few months and then being ghosted by customer service is apparently common;

The Remington is still going strong. Even when the SkullShaver worked I ended up going over the rough bits after with the Remington, as it has a turbo boost function, and gets closer. Reason for not just doing the Remington all over is I found it can give slight irritation using it daily, whilst the Skull Shaver didn't.

Of the 2 I'd definitely buy the RX7, next on my list to try when this eventually stops working is a Braun Series 9 (which I believe comes with 3 years warranty!)

This thread inspired me to check one of my most disastrous purchases in my amazon history. It's the bald eagle shaver.

Rather than ditching it because it failed to shave my head it decided to go off on one one day and there was no way of switching it off. I tried the switch, didn't work, I banged it on the desk and wall a few times, didn't stop it, stamped on it and the thing kept going. I now know why airplanes are reticent about battery powered gadgets in the cabin or the hold. I was travelling at the time and couldn't get it to stop so I just left it in the hotel room buzzing away and walked out the door as quickly as I could.

meths and matches. OK maybe it wasnt meths, but the turkish shave i had was very close then they finished off the wispy ones by setting what i thought was the aftershave alight. Worked. Not sure I'd like to DIY it though.

If the OP wants a stubble, then Wahl balding clippers, or razor the day before.

Or just razor.

There really isn't more to it - the skull shavers etc are just gimmicks in my experience.

I have some Wahl Balding clippers that are about 10+ years old, they are absolutely bombproof. However, they don't cut close enough. Tried using conventional razors, but it took too long (I'm impatient). This where Remington stepped in, I have recently bought the Remington RX7 to replace an RX5 that had given up the ghost after 2 years of being used every other day. It may not be razor level closeness, but it works for me. To reduce the irritation, of the blades I use a bit of shaving foam.

I got one of these last year

I find it keeps catching on the side of my head and on my beard, which produces cuts. The battery is also weird and now it pretty much won't go full tilt without being connected to the mains.
It's a bit disappointing.

Wahl are the best in terms of reliability but no electric clippers are close enough, no matter the brand. I use them for my beard and to trim my bonce hair down, then go over the head again with a wet shave once a week.

If my house is ever the centre of a nuclear detonation I strongly suspect that among the only things that survive it will include those wahl clippers.

When I used to use some of the other options they worked but the gadgets never reliably lasted. Obviously only a use-case of one but I'd be wrong to recommend something that I've found not worth recommending.

Those clippers though, when the Eloi come for me I'll shave their heads with them.

Thanks for all the advice. After more reading I’m just Thinking of getting a new pair of clippers. I’ve seen the wahl ones that cut to 0.2mm, not bothered about a smooth head! I’ve got a pair I bought for a tenner about 8yrs ago, never been oiled etc and still going. But gonna go for a cordless one. Wahl are doing the 10 in 1 aquablade for £70 with lifetime blades that cuts to 0.2mm so think that will do.

Updating this thread to say I took the plunge and bought the much vaunted Braun Series 9 and it’s fantastic. Using it dry is giving me a closer trim than using the Remington or Pitbull wet.

Not cheap at £225 sale price (£550 rrp) but comes with a 5 year warranty so I think it’ll work out cheaper than replacing a pitbull every year.

On my second one now, the first one's battery failed after 3 or 4 years, they are good so I bought another one (not the company).

I found removing the clipper part and washing it out thoroughly then adding a bit of oil to the blades after every 3 months of use helped the battery last longer as it clogs up and strains the battery, I suppose leading to a shorter life.
This is what happened to my first set and on cleaning they were like new for a bit then died.
I have recommended these to other baddies a lot.

As stated below its not completely bald maybe a mil left but it's how I like it.

For those that recommended the Braun Series 9, and the Remington RX7, 5-6 months on from the original thread, would you still recommend these?

Took all of my hair off yesterday with a mach3 type blade and found it a pain TBH. Granted it was my first time but was quite messy and time-consuming.

Was paying £15 every fortnight for a 0.5mm which i'll now be saving so don't mind investing in something.

PS took a few hours to get used to the look, but shaving it to the bone is rather liberating

You'll quickly get used to the razor and won't get as close a finish otherwise.

Stick with it. I shave my head in the shower and don't even need a mirror.
