I’m a very lucky boy - leaving in the morning for a surprise trip to Dubai for my 50th.

Not only that, Mrs D wants to buy me a watch smile.

I know it’s completely subjective but this time last year, all I wanted was a Submariner.

Since buying a few MoonSwatches, which I like, I’ve been thinking about getting an actual Moonwatch (the marketing worked biggrin).

I obviously need to make my mind up but am I likely to actually be able to buy the Sub while we’re away?

I expressed an interest last year with a UK based AD for the Sub after buying a DJ for Mrs D’s 50th and a Tudor Black Bay for my eldest’s 21st. I’ve not heard anything from them and I haven’t chased it but at the time he said there was a good chance I could get it when there was just over a year to go to the big birthday. I didn’t chase it up as I started to be in two minds. I may (or may not) be on the list.

Which one would you choose? It would be something I’d never sell.

Thanks!

You'll probably get an omega but not get a rolex while out and about shopping....

Thanks. That’s what I thought. Just wasn’t sure whether stock levels are the same there as here. At least I won’t have to choose!

I'm late to post, hopefully you'll check in on PH whilst you're out there.

1/ Happy Birthday.
2/ Go to the Gold and Jewelery park. It's just North of the Hall of the Emirates. Elesewhere you will pay Tourist tax.
3/ Don't forget that you are supposed to declare your purchase and pay 20% VAT when you bring your new watch into the UK.

It's the Gold and Diamond Park, Mall not Hall.

Timepiece 360 is the outlet you are looking for in there, seek them out on the usual channels, see what they have, they are a good bunch.

Alternatively there is a British guy here that is now a grey dealer, he may have what you are looking for or be able to source, shifts Rolex, PP, AP etc, his name is Dean Bramley.

Whilst it's had a small bounce back recently I wouldn't imagine the exchange rates work in your favour for buying here at the moment but then again I've not priced up used Rolex in the UK ever to compare.

Hope above helps.

ETA2 - not a sub but I'd look at this instead, this is their auction and they'll have it on store to view, ends shortly.

Thanks for the replies and birthday wishes guys - today is the day, although I’m not sure it counts if you have you birthday abroad biggrin

I went for the Speedmaster in the end. I know they’re very different but I’m happy with the choice. Loved the look of them both. All exhibition in the Mall of the Emirates Rolex store so I suppose the decision was made for me!

Got a 12.5% discount too.

Of course, will be doing my public duty and declaring at customs when we get back biggrin

Got sand buggies this afternoon - this is PH after all biggrin
