Article in the Telegraph.

New vehicle sales were up nearly 10% last month but sale of EVs was down by 17%
Official forecasts showed that the sale of EVs was expected to be 67% by 2027. This has now been revised down to 38%.

Any car not made 45% locally will attract a 10% import tax. This was due to start in Jan 24. It has now been deferred by three years.

Not surprised really - it’s totally unworkable as a scheme overall as no one (except company car & salary sacrifice buyers) are buying EV right now.
All the targets they set including so called Net Zero will slip once people realise they will be much worse off (it’s already happening - look at the number of pre-registered EV’s that have suddenly appeared out of nowhere with minimal mileage & massive savings on new) the general public have no appetite for it.
Sorry to be a doomsayer but it’s a fact.

The announcement was about the import tax between UK and EU and vice versa on cars with batteries not wholly made within the country, nothing to do with mandate.

My point was they’ve already reduced their EV targets downwards from 67% to 38% by 2027 - adding a 10% levy is just going to make them even more unsellable, hence the backtrack.

I think the split is 80% new EV sales are company/company car purchases and only 20% private buyers.
