Watch Ken Block's final Electrikhana here

Mexico City and the Audi S1 Hoonitron combine in style for Block's last YouTube epic

As Ken Block’s final Hoonigan film, it didn’t really matter what was produced for Electrikhana 2 - its huge significance guaranteed attention. Handily, however, like all the films that made the series such a hit, this is a great watch, a fine display of engineering might, driving skill, and some slightly mad thinking. A fitting tribute, then.

The action takes place in Mexico City, with Block having worked with Audi to build on ‘important development lessons’ from the first time out in Las Vegas. Following KB’s untimely passing, this video was originally never going to be shown to the world. We should all be very glad that it has, because it’s an absolute treat: donuts, drifts, skids and flicks in the most unlikely of environments. With some damage to the scenery as well, and more tyre smoke than it ever seemed possible one car could make. Whatever happened to the Hoonitron between Electrikhanas has worked a treat, the S1-inspired beast seemingly even faster, more agile and sillier than ever before.

There’s little more that needs to be said, truthfully. Here’s a man globally famous for his driving style doing what he does best in a truly remarkable electric car. These films were the start of an exciting new era for both Block and the Hoonigan franchise, sadly never to be fully explored. Let’s enjoy what we have, though; if nothing else, the results are fantastic entertainment.

Thanks for the memories, KB.

Love it how he's actually having to look out of the side door window!

Looks and sounds like a full size Tamiya RC car

A hard act to follow. Thanks Ken, you'll be missed

Yeah, I got bored halfway through.

It's a pity Ken Block's last video had to be in an insipid electric car.

The Pastrana video with the Family Huckster was a lot more fun.

Shame.

RIP KB.

Clearly a hugely talented driver and his loss is tragic.

This film was pretty dull though. He'd made much better ones over the preceding years. I was waiting for an epic jaw-dropping finale that never happened.

I'm glad it exists, and I'm happy that it's allowed to be made - the planning and work involved must be immense.

A loss to the motoring world (outside of the personal loss to hus fanily/friends etc).

I couldn't watch much of the video though as the sound went right through me. It's an engineering feat I'm sure, but the noise was toe curling.

The tyres really go through a bettering. Must be hard sometimes to see through so much smoke. Bet it must be a lot of fun though.

As a kid I wondered what the little man in my Tamiya experienced. Now I know, thanks Ken! Brilliant driver, RIP

I live just meters away from where some of this was filmed (the bit with the huge Mexican flag). Filming this meant shutting down major arterial routes through the city. Totally worth it, beautifully filmed. RIP.

Perhaps not the best of his films, but still impressive and a reminder of what a huge talent and advocate for the car hobby we have lost. Was hard not to feel sad watching it, especially the montage at the end, showing clips from each film. Still remember watching the original Gymkhana for the first time and being blown away.

Repetitive & became boring. What a horrible noise. How many sets of tyres used during filming? Seemed to damage the car a few times.

Still, a great driver who will certainly be missed.

I think two things are clear:

1) the e-Tron is nowhere near as entertaining as the ICE cars Ken used in the past - the top speeds looked like they were well down, it clearly wasn’t as good at big jumps, and the lack of noise diluted the experience. Bloody good at slidey / smoky stuff though…
2) Ken was a huge talent - regardless of the shortcomings of the car, he created an entertaining video - how on earth is it possible to drift a 4WD EV backwards?…..
