Must be a fire bug convention going on.

EV’s are the answer to global warming but they seem to be on fire a lot in the media.

I wonder how long it will be before they are back up to speed. I spoke with a Porsche salesman the other day and he said Taycan heating systems are causing issues but they do not have any parts supply to fix the cars affected. I imagine a Hyundai owner somewhere will now have a long wait?

The media do seem het up about EV fires. But in the real world? Diesels 11x more likely to have a fire according to Thatcham Research https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/governmen...

Yeah, it’s just a ‘hot’ topic at the moment that makes a good headline.

Scanning that report, EV fires do seem problematic to put out. Not sure how they compare to ICE in that respect.

EV battery fires are a lot harder to extinguish and the fire is hundreds of degrees hotter. New protocols for them have to be established but as they occur less frequently that tends to, ahem, take the heat off the issue and it loses priority. People who make the decisions about tipping in the resources to do something about it are probably deferring it as much as they can as the EV battery industry has something which won't catch fire just 'round the corner....
