This has stumped the collective minds of my local pub for over a week now. It's brass, about 200mm tall, has two pieces of some other metal let in to it, hole all the way through that narrows in the middle, threaded top and bottom. It came in a box of aircraft pars but our in-house 'plane experts think it's not aero related. And it's heavy. Any ideas?
Er, looks a bit like these

My gut feeling says something to do with steam or a pressure system of some sort. I have nothing to base it on though.
The two plugs of different metal could possibly be pressure relief plugs, but I'm not sure the casting would take much pressure as there's only six small bolt holes in the flange..........Milkyway said:
It looks like a very large ferrule... for a very big hose.
(The raised ribs would bite into the bore of the hose & secure it.)
NB: Are those silver stickers significant... the top one looks as though it covering a removable section.
They aren't stickers. They are machined in pieces of a different metal.(The raised ribs would bite into the bore of the hose & secure it.)
