Driving Through Albania
Discussion
Has anyone driven their Astons through Albania?
Having done numerous Euro trips in my Vantage next year we're looking at driving through Italy, ferry to Greece, around Greece and then on to Croatia which means driving through Albania or ferry hopping Greece-Italy-Croatia.
Some of the other forums mention it a few years ago and there are some good blogs about hiring a car and driving through but does anyone have any experience of driving an Aston or similar recently? Preferably up the coast?

I drove around Albania quite a bit in the summer although not in an A.M.
I was driving my MY23 Defender and it was the ideal car IMO. Some of the roads are in terrible condition and the driving standards can be very challenging. I didn't drive in the south of the country. I will be heading back to the U.K soon and when I reach Albania I will catch the ferry from Vlore to southern Italy to minimise the amount of road usage.
Having said that, the Albanians are truly wonderful people and can be very friendly & generous. Some of the scenery is absolutely stunning but alas, I thought the beaches were terrible and avoided them.

Most of the beaches I went to were in the north and they were crowded & a bit dirty. There was sewage visible in the sea but I think you'll find this in many places nowadays. I guess I'm a bit of a beach snob as I like my beaches concrete free and completely unspoilt.
I was visiting Albanian friends and their idea of a lovely beach is very different to mine, they want lots of people, hotels, shops, bars & restaurants within walking distance of their sun lounger and loud music is a necessity. They are quite traditional and are earning good money outside Albania so like to demonstrate their success, lovely people though. They invited me to a very popular resort near Sarande and I politely declined.
The road between Tirana & the border with Montenegro is very frustrating when busy. The Egyptian refugee camp in Shkoder (I think) is quite an eye opener, the locals insist the camp residents are from Egypt and have been there a long time. You know when you're near the camp as there will be many small children going up to cars stuck in traffic begging for money.
Although both my posts are quite negative but I loved Albania and will go back. The people, food and scenery are mostly wonderful.
