Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is it scary in the winter?
Discussion
Hi All,
looking for a Quad as a daily driver, my commute is 70 miles each way once a week, mostly motorway. But I live in the countryside and drive through B roads often.
I like the idea of a Quad, but is 500HP and rear wheel drive a bit tricky during the winter months when the road is slippy, my wife will also drive it, and neither she or me are italian driving gods.
I'm used to powerful stuff ( Aston, Porsche etc), but these have been weekend cars not a daily in wet conditions.
We do have an old Defender for when it snows
Thanks
Wayne

It isn’t 500bhp all of the time…. turbo cars can be quite manageable in the winter if you stay off-boost.
As mentioned above, some all-season tyres will be fine for almost anything that a UK winter can throw at us, or fit proper winter tyres and go places that even a 4x4 with summer tires wouldn’t go

Thanks, that’s what I hoped.
Any recommendations for good winter tyres , are there winter wheels available or just swap the tyres.
While I’m here… is there a quiet-ish start up mode? My Aston woke up everyone in the street when I set off at 6:40am!
Personally I can’t think of a better alarm clock , but people are weird

I run mine with Sottozero Serie II, perfectly fine in the winter.
If you run the car in Advanced Efficiency the power and torque are lowered to 350hp / 380 Nm as well:
Also, in Dynamic there's a soft torque limiter in place until around 4500 rpm in third. Not noticed it as shown in the able above for N though or up to fifth.
Start up is fairly quiet if the valves are closed and you have the standard exhaust, pre-OPF cars (pre-2020) are louder.

As above, perfectly fine - just don't drive like a dick!
I've still got PS4S, live in Aberdeenshire and get on ok in the cold and damp. It'd be easy to lose traction if you treat the throttle as on and off but it's all very manageable. It's the first RWD car my partner's driven and she gets on fine as well.
I also agree with Mike - the torque limit only applies up to third.

I usually have the car in Race mode with traction off all the time.....in all conditions and is fine.
Good thing is the rear wheels are controlled by your right foot so squeeze the pedal gently and you'll be fine!
I personally love the slippery conditions as you can have fun at lower speeds!
Just avoid puddles as I've had issues with water getting into from light control units causing electrical issues. - Sorted under warranty but hassle nevertheless.
Best of luck.

Similar to you OP I use mine for a 90 miles commute twice a week. Mainly on M/W then B roads.
I'm still on the original P Corsas. When I got the car in January they seemed fine however when the cold came earlier this month they struggled with half throttle which is amusing off the line, but not at 70mph. This was most likely down to them being 10k miles older.
So just be careful.
I went looking for Sotto Zero's, but they are so difficult to find. However owners seem rate MPS4's (which are brilliant on the TVR) even in winter so I will change to these next.
