I need to cheer up a good friend can anyone give any ideas for days out, things to do etc?

He has wide interests but not cycling. Any ideas are appreciated.

He’s based in West Sussex but it’s no problem to go somewhere much further afield.

Have a look at Zip World in Snowdonia, they have so many different things going on now i am sure you could find something to do there.

Brooklands Museum have a lot of events on through Jan.

Depending on budget, how about a day out in London? Go for lunch or dinner at somewhere a bit different like Rules or L'escargot, London Eye, wonder around a gallery or two, drinks at the Shard, etc?

As this is a car forum, how about a driving experience at Mercedes World, next to Brooklands museum, I have done it and would recommend.

Someone else suggested Rules resturant, good idea.

It's not cheap, but I know a lunch there on a cold Jan day would cheer me up!

West Sussex - take him for a day out at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. I think it's £44 each, but you can visit unlimited times in 12 months. If you want cheaper then Fort Nelson is free. One Sunday, I picked my Dad up, drove from Kent to Southsea and took the Hovercraft across to the IOW, then had lunch and a mooch around. My Dad was so chuffed with the Hovercraft rides.

Book the pair of you for a clay pigeon shooting lesson.
The combination of structured learning & a new challenge helps “fill” the time you’re together (& might lead to a new hobby if you’re trying to help give him an interest).

It’s not that hard to learn to hit a few on your first session with good instruction & very satisfying when you do. Most folk who try & eager to do it again & improve.

What's making him miserable? st job? Lack of partner in life? If someone is properly miserable, a night out won't "touch the sides".

True, but a nice gesture can help someone for a day. Even if a friend says "hey book a day in Jan and we'll go for a walk and grab a nice pub lunch" it can make a difference.

But yes it does depend if we are talking about "a bit down as they have had a crap year" vs "has severe clinical depression"

Yeah - I'm just posting having witnessed someone with a medical issue that has scuppered his plans for 2024 and he's feeling pretty st about things. The day out we tried had no effect on his mood.
