How do you get that drunk?

I've been working in a Wetherspoons this morning, I've just been to the loo and there were 2 guys trying to have a conversation about (I think) one of their ex wives.
Drunk isn't in it, I couldn't get that drunk, I'd pass out I'm sure way before.
Is it just practice?
I'm confused, does not take much, but were the two drunks both married to the same wife at the same time?Drunk isn't in it, I couldn't get that drunk, I'd pass out I'm sure way before.
Is it just practice?
Or just one at a time?

You must have had a sheltered life. PH is becoming a bit of a pearl clutching site of late.Drunk isn't in it, I couldn't get that drunk, I'd pass out I'm sure way before.

It does amaze me how drunk some people manage to get without being an utter state. As a youngest I'd had my moments of drinking too much and being sick, once that happened I was done for the night. Yet know of people who'd then carry on.
I worked with a guy who was notorious for drinking 80-90 pints per week, essentially a functioning alcoholic. It used to amaze me how he'd have 15 pints in a night and be up and on a train at 7am and ran a large successful department. He'd go for a client lunch and drink a pint every 15 minutes or buy a round, order his first beer and drink that whilst they poured the rest, then take his second beer back to the table.

When I enjoy a drink whilst not at home the 3 important things are
1) the company
2) the location
3) the drink itself
I'm guessing if you're sloshed in a Spoons pre lunchtime these may not be be all high on your list.

2 - Often a well known building in a town centre with a taxi rank outside, which makes it easy for everybody to have a drink and still get home safely.
3 - Usually a decent range of real ales, and an acceptable choice of single malts - Cheap enough to try the available options.
There are times when Wetherspoons can be the right choice.

There's a guy in my local 'spoons who has been the same since I moved to the area in 2011. Always sat alone with 5 empty pints around him. I guess it's cheap and has heating.
I've met a few people who have a half decent pension but no family. Drink is a hobby and a friend. I popped into a local wetherspoons this weekend whilst waiting for a taxi nearby (Chorlton) and walked straight out. Its beers now are 1980s type chain stuff. No Belgian, nothing American. Nothing. Nothing that I'd want to drink.
The place was almost empty (9ishpm).
