Handbrake - Button/ratchet stuck + Oil light

Hi Guys,

Done a search and found [i]similar[/i] to what i'm looking for but not exactly.

The handbrake ratchet doesn't engage on the teeth any more and the button appears to be stuck - I can't push it in or out. The lever just lifts up and down and I can only engage the ratchet by giving the lever a bit of a twist as I lift it.

I guess the lever neds a bit of alignment (having read the threads thrown up by my search) but what is up with the button? I've unscrewed it but it makes no difference as the bit underneath is still stuck. Is it a lever apart job and what can I expect to find?

Also the oil warning light on the speedo is blown (the one next to the ignition light) has anyone replaced this without pulling the dash to bits? I reckon I could get myself into a position where I can get my hand up behind the pod and onto the back of the speedo - is the bulb holder a push fit into the back of the speedo?

You can unbolt the top 'pod' part of the dash quite easily its only two wingnuts its then easy to get to the back of the instruments

TS, not sure if this applies to you, but I (foolishly with my skill set) put a Leven grip on my handbrake a while back. When screwing the button back on the end I found the button stayed in and handbrake woudlnt work. Screwed the button right out/off, moved the h/brake up and down a bit, screwed it all together again. Still didnt work. Loosened the button a couple of turns and hey presto

often the handbrakes get a little bent towards the right from use.
Can sort the sticking of mechanisim by holding the handbrake at the bottom (at the pivot) and with the other hand holding the top (by the button) you can gently bend it slightly. That fixed mine.
