V Power Price Differential
Discussion
I was driving past the local Shell earlier when I noticed that I was down to 1/4 tank (at which point I usually fill up) and the price advertised for regular petrol was down to 139.9p. This particular Shell is usually the last to reduce prices and the first to increase them as the price of oil fluctuates, and I usually fill up at Tesco as a result, but given the reasonable price I thought I'd duck in and grab a relative bargain.
Imagine my surprise when I lift up the VPower fuel nozzle and the price pops up at 176.9p. I've never seen such a massive price difference between regular and premium fuel. At Tesco it's usually about 4 or 5p more and last time I filled there, Momentum was cheaper than diesel. Is this the norm these days? I couldn't replace the pump quick enough to be honest. If it was a few pence I would have gone for it anyway but that's a difference of about 15 quid vs Tesco on a full tank, who's going to literally just burn that money?
For reference, this is south Oxfordshire, village location but on an A road so not motorway but not middle of nowhere either. I don't want to get into the ins and outs of premium fuel; obviously my engine will explode if I put anything less than 99 Ron in there

The Shell going south on the A34 ? That's a pretty big bump over standard 95. That said I find BP ultimate the biggest rip off, usually 10-15p more for 97 seems steep to me. Abingdon Tesco is my go to. 137.9 for 95 and 144 for momentum
Always laughed at the price there when i drive past, you would have to be almost out of fuel to stop there, but its been there years, either alot of people are desperate or dont look at the priceGassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
