yes be wear. However some people just have the bug for e-bay and like it for the guarantee of a sum of money at a pre-defined point in time. If you view e-bay as a forum for advertising and still buy a car with the same scrutiny and prudence of a regular sale then you will be OK. An honest vendor will always be open, allow car inspections and V5 in their name at there home etc. Having said that I have not met / read or heard of a person buying a car on e-bay though plainly there is a lot of it happening. Basically lower cost is only possible with increased risk and in my experience of privately buying 4 Porsches over the years there is no such thing as a cheap Porsche and if it appears to be there WILL be a reason. It pays to be suspicious in this matter.

My Brother-in-law just bought a mint 996 cabrio off ebay and it was astonishingly good value. The car is a real minter and the seller was a true enthusiast....neither of us could work out why he sold it there.

So, they're not ALL bad...just be careful and check it out thoroughly before buying.

I bought my 2003 996TT on e-bay a few months back. I have also bought a scooter (QXL rather than e-bay)and sold a BMW Z3M Coupe and the (same) scooter on e-bay.

Bottom line is that for buying / selling anything which runs into thousands, you should see and check out the car to the same degree that you would with any private sale, i.e totally and BEFORE you bid!! As long as you do all the checks in the usual way to validate the deal you will be fine.

Scams exist on e-bay just as they do in the classifieds. I have not had a bad buy (or sell) as yet, and on balance have found better deals in better condition on e-bay.

As with anything - just check it out first.
