At an Omega event last night, a few conversations going on about some watches having issues with the magnetism from electric cars. Anyone got any real world experience or science to confirm/refute?

Wear nothing but automatic watches and have been driving an EV for 5 years, haven't noticed a thing.

Most of my automatics are Seiko's though, maybe they just make better watches rofl.

Also, you should avoid puddles with an EV, because, you know, water and electricity don't go well together.

Sounds bks to me, I wear a mechanical watch and drive either an electric or hybrid, car, I've not noticed any issues with my "timepiece"!

I drive an EV all the time and no problem with my Submariner timekeeping

Only time I've had magnets affect a watch I was using a Cnc machine that used large linear motors instead of leadscrews.

My daily driver is a 23 year old Defender. When I drive my wife’s Tesla my mechanical Seiko 5 watch indicates that I’ve got from A to B more quickly than I would have done in the Land Rover. Am I doing this right?

The right answer here is to just assume this is a problem and get another watch that is magnetically shielded, something like a Rolex Milgauss to wear when driving your EV.

A good point well made.

My father gave up wearing a watch in his teens , as according the him watches would run manically fast or slow, allegedly due to him and his personal ‘magnetism’ , I thought this was of course absolute rollocks, but guess what? Certain watches will not run with any kind of reliability when I wear them , I to this day don’t wear quartz/ battery powered watches, as they just don’t keep the right time, autos are a bit better, thankfully.

Better an Omega if EVs are the concern, METAS certified to tolerate 1.5 Tesla..

Standing joke in our house that my wife kills all watches, Garmin watches, Apple Watch, anything electronic just will not keep time, I bought her a Breitling automatic, and it has been perfect. There must be something to this ?

Very good points, particularly given how it was an Omega event and Rolex doesn't make the milgauss anymore. NEW WATCH TIME!

Since getting an EV my mechanical watch has begun to not start if it's stopped and I wind it up. Needs a slight tap to get it going.

That's more to do with it not having been serviced in over 10 years than any magnetism I expect.

So the problem only occurs when you get your second Tesla? scratchchin
