TED ANNUAL P.H SHOW PLEASE
Discussion
Ted seeing as there as been some well organised p.h meets,how about taking it a little further and having an annual show like the n.e.c im sure members would contribute towards the cost of a hall,we could re-coupe the money by opening the doors to the public and donating the rest to charity im sure that with some of the exotica with which some members have would make for a good show
Absolutely Stunning Idea.
One way of recouping some of the cost is to have Trade Stands. Inivite all the marques represented on the GS, TVR, Lotus, Morgan, Porshce, BMW etc etc etc to have there own stands, which costs them of course, Invite the advertisers on PH to have stands too, and the rest is recouped in the entrance fee, any left goes to Charity (the one that Dave H's family chose perhaps?)
Edited to say :- I've just looked at the NEC Group Website and why is it that every time I look at the site there is always a picture of the TVR Tuscan Racer next to the Blurb for the NEC?!

Problems here are the astronomical cost of hiring NEC and the miniscule size of Pistonheads budget. Also, it would be very similar to existing Sports Car show held at NEC - and those of you who've been will know that very few sports car manufacturers have bothered to take a stand at that.
For those reasons I can't see it being commercially viable and doubt Ted would want to take what would be a large risk trying it out.
That's not to say a Pistonheads event couldn't happen though. Early this year Ted and I discussed the posibility of an outdoor event held at Avon Park/Shakespeare County drag strip near Stratford. This would enable us to have a static show of Pistonheader's cars as well as having manufacturers/dealers to show their cars and even offer test drives/passenger rides. It would also give you chance to give your cars some serious hammer up the drag strip...
This type of event wouldn't cost silly money to stage, and I know Avon Park are well up for it. However, it would still take time, money and effort to organise, and there's no point expecting Ted to commit himself if nobody's going to turn up.
The only way an event like this is going to happen is if Ted knows it's going to get enough support, so if you want it, you need to let it be known.
Right then, over to you lot...

I'd love to contribute, I think PH is such a wonderful club (even though I know it's not an actual club) although I freely admit I'll not be doing much while I'm in New Zealand. The problem with most car clubs is that they're not on the net enough, here, we obviously are and I think it'd be fantastic to have more organised events. Although being only run by Ted, if this sort of organised event was to become a regular thing, a committee woul more than likely required to perform the large amount of organisational work that goes on to make such an event happen and run smoothly. Althjough I'm sure if a group of you got togeher and decided you wanted to organise and stage something like that yourself (albeit on probably a smaller scale) you could just go ahead and organise it and I'm sure Ted would let you use the Pistonheads name to promote it with (provided it doesn't involve a level of drunkenness and debauchery like hairy/shaven pie
)

I do recognise the need for more organised meets. The regional meets are great to see happening and I don't want to discourage those. That said I need to be careful how 'PistonHeads' is associated/branded with such events.
To protect what the brand represents I want to ensure that any officially endorsed PH events are of a high quality. That's why we teamed up with a track day company to run our track days and that's why BTaP has taken some organising ourselves.
Also - with my commercial hat on - I need to make sure that events are financially viable. Events requiring organisation by PH that don't turn some sort of a profit are unforunately not attractive as I've got a mortgage to pay. That's just the commercial reality of the way the site operates (currently).
Graham and I did talk about the Avon Park meet earlier in the year and at the time I wasn't that enthusiastic as I wasn't sure what sort of attendance level we'd get. Now having been to the Chatsworth and VW meets I know we'd easily get a couple of hundred great cars there so we'll probably try something out there in the spring.
An annual PH show with the members bringing along the exhibits sounds fantastic and in the fullness of time I'd love to see that. From little acorns...

Ted, your words in my ear - that sounds plausible.
Just to set up some guidelines:
What do you suggest on handling 'unbranded' events, which are organised by members on this board, but not officially supported by the PH Ltd.?
Should they be allowed to refer to pistonheads.com?
>>edited to add a 't' in 'pistonheads'

I guess the old 'Pie' reference makes things a little easier "Pie on the Beach", "Pie and Trout", etc.
PH can't endorse events that aren't organised by us directly for a number of reasons. Again, please don't think I'm trying to discourage meets, just that we can't label an event as a 'PistonHeads' meet or have members negotiating venues on behalf of 'PistonHeads' without our consent.
There are commercial issues associated with branding, trademarks, liability etc. which we need to be more protective of now that PH is established.

Yes, 'Pie' sounds very good:
-Members do well recognize the origins of an event with 'pie' in its name, and won't have problems to identify themselves with that.
-The public won't confuse the result of a pie-event with PH (worst case here
)
-The inofficial 'Pie'-label will develop itself to a sign of top-quality-motoring in future

Just an example of how acorns grow back in 1988 a small group of military vechile owners held a show in kent i was one of them,that show attracted 60 vechiles and a few thousand visitors today this event attracts 4000 vechiles and 160,000 visitors over a five day period with participants as far as u.s.a. japan and australia im not saying this is what can happen with a p.h show but it just shows you what can happen
PetrolTed said: That's certainly not on the cards in the forseeable future!
Glad to hear it.
No downtime on Friday, just no Ted (behave yourselves now!![]()
