Bloody throttle cable snapped again,(not the fastest car to drive home when the cable has snapped, managed to drive it 2 miles on tick over, not funny being over taken by school boys on their push bikes)this one only lasted 6 months, is this a known issue that requires some sort of mod.

Although this has never happened to me I seem to remember being told that the problem was caused by the positioning of the cable, not the weakness of the cable itself. I think the snapping was caused by the way the cable attaches, it should be modified so it attaches in a slightly different position which does not stress and rub the cable.

Hope this helps despite my vagueness, or at least puts your research in the right direction!

6 months should still be under warranty from the dealer that fitted it, get them to fit and align a new one properly.

Oh and keep a long bit of string in the car, just in case...

Even with the MK2 cable and bracket you have to be very careful with the alignment/angling of the bracket behind the throttle pedal over the throttles whole (long) travel range. If the angle is slightly wrong at any point over the throttle travel you will get strain on the cable end which will eventually cut it a strand or two at a time until it snaps completley. My current cable has been on for over 10,000 miles so they are ok when fitted properly and I have checked it a couple of times and I have no signs of any wear.

Cheers.

Plus if it is set up wrong, just over 3/4 throttle the cable will not return and you will be left with a stuck throttle cable, and the engibe running at 75% power, not a funny possition...
