I recently bought a Monaro CV8 and it has starting issues. I had the same issues with my old VT2 SS 20 years ago and I think it is due to the starter cooking under the exhaust manifold.

Last week the car clicks (solenoid clicking) but the starter motor does not spin. I did the old trick of rocking it in 3rd gear, which was difficult because it was on a gravel drive, and the starter worked - once. Since then it's left me stranded and I can't trust the car until I've changed it for a known good.

Question is: Where to get one from? Vauxhall have nothing, tried a few local motor spares and Euro which doesn't list them either. Can anyone recommend a supplier? I'm near Cambridgeshire if that helps.

Or you could just take it off and have it rebuilt locally.

If indeed it is the problem.

You are in London according to your profile?? Sahibs Auto Electric. On the NCR at Hanger Lane, if not busy it is while you wait but once I had to leave it for two hours. Used him years ago, when my local fella retired, saved me bundles over the years.

Check you haven't got a dodgy earth or +ve connection etc... nothing worse than taking off, spending money, putting back and "click".

Many thanks for all the replies, I will investigate the options. I have moved out of London (last week!) and lost the email address I have on my profile so wondered why I was not getting notifications.

Walkinshaw is shut for Christmas, so will try the other options. I would rather buy a new one and have a spare for rebuilding but we will see what pans out.

https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=357322...

If you go with the FedEx shipping where the VAT / Duty is pre-paid, you could have it by Friday hehe

Bit fiddly getting to the wires, but can be swapped in situ from underneath. Disconnect the battery first.

I looked at Rock but in the end I got one (ordered for delivery tomorrow) from PartsWorld using the part # you supplied above smile

Now I've just got to find someone to fit it before Christmas biggrin
