What am I doing wrong?
Discussion
Ok, let me start by saying please don't laugh at me, coz I feel like a total d!ck having to ask this.
I've only filled my bike up with petrol twice, but it seems either I can't use a fuel pump or my bike doesn't like being filled up. First time I went I just put the nozzle in the fuel line thingummy, but almost as soon as I pulled the trigger thingy (liking my technical terms? ;) )it stopped/clicked off. It kept doing this and then after a few more attempts petrol suddenly frothed up around the nozzle. Bit embarrassed, I go pay for it on my fuel card and ride off quickly.
So next time I filled up, I did it nice and slowly. First 2 litres went in ok, but then (unfortunatly while I was watching the numbers on the petrol pump) it suddenly frothed up leaving my seat and tank covered in a splattering of petrol.
Thing is, I don't know why its doing it. Does the way the handle is pointing affect it? Or am I just stupid? Or is it a problem with the fuel line (wouldn't surprise me, with the list of 12 other 'moderate to serious' faults discovered in the past 11 days of ownership)?
Hope you can help, thanks

Is the 'petrol tank' actually the petrol tank or is it a dummy with a 'remote' tank, I ask because many years ago I had a twist'n go which used the frame tube as a tank (my Son's 'motocrosser' also has the same system) and it would only ever fill very slowly,(even had an air bleed valve under the seat), often overflowing before it was full as the air couldn't get out fast enough.
Hey but look on the bright side, I bet it doesn't use very much

Its a dummy, you open the "tank" and it has a little filler cap inside it. Got 75 miles out of half a tank last time I filled it! (then again, its only a 9 litre tank...)

Probably foams up because theres a small passage to the tank.
So that's about 75mpg seems quite 'thirsty' for a 50cc (my Ducati can manage 45mpg on a steady run) but 9 litres is a big tank, IIRC my twist'n go only held about 2 litres.

It does exactly the same on my TVR...It takes four times longer to get 20 quid in the Tiv than it does to get 55 quid in the Saab. Nozzle clicks off or fuel splatters everywhere - absolutely nothing I can about it, it seems...
Nice and slow is the only way to go....
I found just the same with my BMW 5 series, but I later discovered that it only happened with 2 pumps on the forcourt.
When I have to use 1 of those 2 pumps, if I put the nosel in all the way then pull it out an inch or so the fuel goes in far better, though it is still slow
This may work on a bike aswell
I don't really understand those DNA type things....they're not a bike and they're not really a scoot (although I call them that) but what really puzzles me is why people buy them. There's a good selection of 50cc bikes around nowadays that look pretty cool so why go for a scoot that imitates a bike and not just get the bike?
Perhaps you can enlighten me, as they're very popular and I'm genuinely curious.

Aprilia RS50's have very fragile engines, and most what are owned by 16yr olds need a rebuild after as few as 1500 miles. By the distances I'm driving that would be in 2 months, and you don't want to be doing an engine rebuild after 2 months of owning a new bike.
Yahama TZR50's and Motorhispania RX50's I have round are hard to come across in the UK and would probably have to be imported specially (which would be a long wait for a 16 year old).
All of these bikes are (IIRC) GEARED 50cc bikes. The problem with that is, gears 4 5 and 6 are virtually redundant as at 16 you're limited to 30mph. Can you imagine having to change gear while accelerating to 30mph, then you just ride at that constant speed?
The Gilera DNA50 is (IIRC) the only 'twist and go' or auto bike that has a 50cc engine. Its seen as a more gentle way to get into biking, not having to learn how to use a 6 speed 'box on a bike on your first day of CBT. They also look good (although admittedly not as good as some of the race reps) and if people (like me) don't want to be seen near/on a scooter they are the best way to get mobility at 16 without looking like (IMHO) a dick on a scooter.
Its also quite fun when people hear the sound of a scooter, turn round and I'm coming down the road. Some people stop and look round the whole area to see where the scooter is
And you get some funny looks when they realise its you on the "bike"

Fair enough. I'd still argue its a scooter though with fake clip ons. Personally I don't see them as a way into biking as there's no difference to riding a scooter. Part of the biking experience is using the rev range, the gears, engine braking etc etc that you cant' get on a scooter.
I was lent a 180cc scooter the other day as a courtesy 'bike' while my 748 was being fettled and it was bloody good fun I must say. Couldn't get it above 90 though...

Someone in the office just commented; "Scooters are to biking what walking is to driving."
Look, I would absolutely LOVE to have a bike that I could use the rev range with, but in reality do I have a cat in hells chance of being able to do that when I'm restricted to 30mph???
Next august when I turn 17 I plan on gtting the biggest bike I possibly can, as I absolutely love riding my bike. l'd go right now to buy a bigger/better bike if I could.
So plese don't give me sh!t like that, as a) whatever bike I choose its still a 50cc, b) its always going to be restricted to 30mph if I want to stay legal and c) its not my bloody fault.

Whoa there....we've all got to start somewhere. Just stop calling your DNA a bike.....

Try looking at the petrol tank when you're filling it up, when it's getting near the top let go of the trigger

Should have perused ebay for a Pre 1977 Moped. Yep they have pedals but the best of them go to 60 when pushed. The FS1E is really reliable using the modern consumables although you have to pre-mix. Oh the days of the FS1E, AP50,Malaguti, Gilera,Garelli and Fantic.
This one has auto-lube.
