Inspired by another thread debating the W116 6.9/600 grosser/W126 overlap, I was thinking about car models that have continued alongside the new generation.

A couple that spring to mind are the Range Rover P38 vs. Classic (and it was badged "Classic" as well), Jaguar XJ40 vs XJ12 SIII (although granted you couldn't at that stage get the V12 in the XJ40). BMW also seem to have a habit of keeping touring models alive after the later saloon has been launched (E30 touring vs E36 saloon - the E36 saloon being launched in 1991, and the E30 touring limping on to 1994! Similarly the E39 touring carried on into 2004 when the E60 saloon was launched in 2003)

Any others?

Depends if you mean in the same market or not? A lot of manufacturers build older stuff for NGOs etc. Toyota never stopped making the 70 series Land Cruiser for instance. You could still buy a Mk1 Golf and an older VW van in some markets until fairly recently too.

Renault sold the late 90's Clio well into the life of the new gen car, offering it as a bargain-basement option.

The Escort was still sold alongside the Focus for a number of years too, up until around X plate I've seen. Van for a few more years after that too!

Pretty sure the 5 'Campus' was sold for a few years after the launch of the original Clio

Lancia Delta Integrale was sold alongside the the new Delta for a year or two, but not in the UK since Lancia pulled out completely at that point. The Integrale Evo 2 was even launched as a 'new' model after the new Delta had already gone on sale.

-Renault 5 Campus sold alongside the mk1 Clio

-Renault Clio Mk2 Campus sold along the mk3

-Ford Escort Finesse/Flight sold alongside the new Focus.

-Peugeot 206 was sold alongside the 207 in European Markets, with a 207 front end grafted on badged as the 206+

They are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Going back a bit, but wasn't the Metro intended to replace the Mini? And I think that the Volvo 740 should have replaced the 240. SAAB might have had a similar overlap in the 99 and 900 models?

As above Renault definitely did, but I have a feeling that Peugeot did the same with either the 205/206 or maybe 106 and it's replacement?

wasn't the P6 in production til 1977after the introduction of the SD1 in 1976?

Also I think the TR3B for US markets overlapped with TR4 launch

Mercedes often sold the estate car version of the previous model alongside the saloon version of the new car.
For example the S202 was available after the W203 went on sale - same with the E-class S210 and W211.

Porsche 928 was intended to replace the 911, although it was a completely different car so maybe not within this thread topic. Anyway, we know how that went.
