I have been driving past a version of this road sign in northern New Brunswick (Canada's only officially bilingual province) for a few decades now.

I have always been struck by the peculiar choice of car that was printed on this sign. Maybe it's just me but every time I pass the sign I instantly see a ______ ____. Unusual because it was not as popular a vehicle here as in its home of manufacture.

What do you see as the make/model displayed on the warning sign?

Apologies for the somewhat out of focus image. Was quickly asking Mrs. Catfish to snap an image as we drove by. smile

Interesting...a BMW had not occurred to me as an option.

I was seeing a slightly more down-market convertible.

.....the German variant you mentioned was not popular here at that the time I was growing up either.

More of a British built but Italian design me thinks. wink

Even the door mirrors look right for an E30.

More like an earlier series, E30 (already suggested) etc.

Yeah, probably. The mirrors look a bit more E46 but the headlights are too even so E30 is probably closer.

Agree, just avoid it in anything other than a W168 A Class.

Incidentally I had to check the UK Highway Code so as to confirm that this is still a current warning sign.

Seemingly it is, so I guess the majority of us still drive Hillman Minxes and ride BSA's.

I think of that as a 100E.

Also this, but is finally due to be replaced because "A rise in recent accidents has highlighted that the locomotive could be confusing to younger drivers, delivery drivers, and pedestrians unsure on what the signage means."rolleyes
