Road tax - when waiting for v5c

If someone is waiting for their v5c, without which their can not be taxed (for example if you buy it without one or from an auction), will you get a penalty for not having it taxed if it's parked on the street (when you don't have driveway).

You can tax it online if you have the V5C/2 tear-off page, or the V11 reminder. You can (or used to be able to) tax it at main post offices if you have the complete V62 application, plus some supporting paperwork and proof of ID.

If you have no paperwork at all then you've no way to prove you haven't just bought a stolen car. In that case you'll probably have to take it off the road and SORN it until you receive the logbook and can tax it.

Yes, you can expect to be fined if you keep it on the road while it is untaxed, although you may get away with it for a day or two. Driving it would definitely be pushing your luck since DNPR cameras are so widespread. You may also find your insurance is not valid if the car is not taxed and registered to you. Driving while uninsured can get you into a whole lot of trouble.
