My car failed its MOT on the 19th December (Engine Management problem- looks like a purge valve and carbon tank need) 2019 Skoda Karoq 18000miles
The MOT man has told me its main dealership problem so booked it into Skoda which is the 5th Jan (earliest as possible).

But now my MOT has expired and My Road Tax is up as I cant renew it without a MOT,

Can I drive my car to Skoda (3 miles away) to get it fixed? they have told me they need to put it on the tester to check it first and then order parts so not sure how long it will take.

I'm not sure what the rules are but seems I've read you can drive you car to a MOT station or a repair place without MOT/TAX.

Can someone advice me please.

For 3 miles, frankly I would risk it.

Book the MOT with the Skoda dealer?

As above, book the repair and the MOT with Skoda.
You are then legally covered to drive the car to the place of the MOT.

Once it's fixed and tested, you can tax the car and drive home.

Job jobbed.

You do not need an MoT to drive a vehicle to a garage to be repaired. Same applies for VEL.

This, the hassle of getting nabbed for no tax and mot just is not worth it for the sake of £50.

No not this.
You can drive it without MOT and tax to a place where it is being repaired.

For some helpful information, they're talking about the EVAP, Evaporative Emission Control System, which filters out the petrol vapours, it is important that the filler cap is sealed correctly and creating a vacumn so try undoing it and tightening.

The other problem is overfilling the tank especially if it spills out goes past the first click, this can contaminate / flood the charcoal cannistor, it should evaporate if you're lucky.

Other than that a fault with the EVAP system or vacum control, should be under warranty.

Shouldn’t the OP also check his insurance policy? Some insurers apparently insist on a car being taxed, so driving it to an MOT without tax would effectively be driving with no insurance.

Comes up all the time, seems pretty uncommon and bit of urban myth iirc.

In this situation with my local independent garage, I always text reg number as part of booking confirmation so that if stopped, you have proof of booking.

I understood that you can without an mot, but i was under the impression that it should still be taxed.

One car has an issue on a car forum and you think there's a problem with VAG as a whole?

I have the 1.5 TSI engine - I spoke to Skoda spares as I was going to replace the purge valve myself but he said the whole lot need changing and its a problem with the new E10 fuel and its been issue for VAG. He also told me VAG isn't what they used to be.
For car which is 4 years old with 19000k miles seems crap.
Ill be looking to replace it any recommendations would be grateful (Maybe BMW X3/ Discovery Sport)

To be fair, anything with 19 million miles on it is going to show the odd problem.
