Holiday cottages in North East Italy?

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find a nice holiday cottage in north east Italy - Verona ish, right across to Slovenia, really don't mind.
We have been to France loads of times and love a couple of weeks in a rental, near a village, with a pool, just to relax. Lots of choice of places that sleep 3 or 4, are relatively good value at £1500/week or thereabouts.
Italy though, there seems very few and what there are are vast places that sleep 10-16 and cost loads more. Maybe we're just looking in the wrong place?
Any suggestions?
