Hello all, I have an anonymous question.

Scenario:
I have a car for a number of years. I build up 10 years of no claims discount. I still have car.

I buy an additional car. I do the meerkat and I take out a new policy on the new car. When doing so, I add my 10yrs NCD to the policy.

So now I have 2 independant policies, different companies, different cars, same home address and both have my 10 yrs NCD on them.

I did this as I was overlapping the ownership of 2 cars. I intended to sell the first car after a few weeks.

So 4 months have now passed and I realise I will be keeping both.

I understand I'm only supposed to use my NCD on one policy. Am I in deep mess if I make a claim on either policy? If I made a claim, I would obviously tell both of them at renewal time that I had 0 NCD.

Please share your thoughts/opinions

Extract yourself from the situation asap and reinsure one of them with zero NCD.

If you "understood" that the NCD is only valid for the original policy, why did you apply it to the second policy?

Your second policy is essentially invalid, because you were not truthful when taking out the policy.

I'm pretty sure that from a legal perspective, you have taken out the second insurance policy fraudulently and hence they would be entirely within their rights to not pay out if you try to make a first party claim; and to chase you for the costs if someone tries to make a third party claim against your policy.

Didn't the insurer of the new car ask you for proof of the no claims bonus? In my experience they generally do.

Cancel the second policy immediately, then insure the second car with a new insurer.
Explain you have 10 years NCD on another car and ask them what they can do for you.
Many in my experience will give you a substantial discount on the second car's premium, some may decide to clone the NCD legitimately.

Your present suitation is fraudlent and may cause you all sorts of pain if you don't correct it.

Ok, thank you for the sobering messages. 1st policy is now cancelled... another person has now insured it as they will be main driver soon anyway. 2nd policy is now my only policy. No one asked for proof of no claims, and no one ever has in 10 years, but i would just show them the renewal email from last year if they did.

Once again, thank you. Genuinely.
