Does your car have one??? Im not talking about the change up buzzer at 7000-7200rpm (cant remember which) - just curious as the God of Cerberas and Upgrades doesnt seem to think many people have one set at any reasonable revs??
Just curios as we have been playing with data loggers and noticed that our car picks up in power/pace just before the buzzer and is still climbing when it hits the rev limiter at 7500rpm.
I seem to recall that some of the Emerald boys are running up to 8krpm without problem, so we feel a little left out here... It would be beneficial to be able to hold third on the 1/4 mile without change up, but it just hits the damn rev limiter.
Ours is set at 7500rpm, definately - anyone else know if thiers is set accordingly?? Or does anyone know if it is best to reset it higher and what the recommendation is to set it to??
Thanks in advance,
Ben CA

It's a rare chip if it's got a rev limiter .. you sure you're not running out of fuelling or other such nastiness?
The fastest cerbie boys are holding 3rd to over the line on the 1/4 mile .. you can't get low 12s any other way from what i've seen as a gear change just takes too long.
what sorts of times is your car doing Ben? 12.3 / 118mph is the fastest cerbie I've seen so far. Guess who tuned it?
for a 1350kg 2wd car that's effing fast

I had my T350 at 12.9 terminal at 118, and the 4.5 on the day was 12.93 terminal 116, and that was the autec tuned one with 430 (real) hp...
Mr F
Joolz, we cant compare times unfortunately as the only time we hit the 1/4 is the speed trials, and its a VERY slippy 1/4mile, where cars that usually run in the elevens tend to run around 12.5 - our best is 13.5, with 109 terminal - compare that with a Tuscans terminal that never bettered 105 (cant remember the times) and a Race tuscan with 5.7litre Chevy/ 500ish REAL bhp @ 12.3
Ours is very definately not capable of accelerating beyond 7500rpm. The data doesnt lie, which is rather annoying as the car has more to give. I think dad may even be changing up to fourth on the 1/4 - yet at only 109mph.
Seems like we are missing out!!!
Its not as if its one of those Cerberas that only comes out to pootle about on sundays either, we could do with the extra revs for the day to day commute
and possibly also sprints/hillclimbs lol.
Tbh, we're missing an emerald, an induction kit and the endless perfectionist skills of a certain track-car-solutions before it can really burn up the 1/4's!! Just need to convince dad to fork out the cash, im willing to go half way on the Emerald... but moneys a little tight at times.

I was doing 12.5-12.7 all day with only 375bhp, then with 390-400bhp 12.3-12.5. With 430bhp I would be gutted if I didn't get under 12 secs.Cyclone, would you mind telling me your launch technique??? (through my profile if you want to keep it hush hush) we'll be representing Cerbera's as always at the Speed Trials - so all help is much appreciated!!!!
12.3 is
quick!!! I take my hat off to you sir, superb!!!
Joolz:
REALLY need you to work your magic on our Cerb!!! - will spend the weekend talking dad into it - assuming £1k for the remap (or was it £1.2?) I'll go halves with him, whats £500-£600 in Cerbera land?? NOTHING!!! and it'll be alot of fun + more importantly, have alot more smoothness.
The rev limiter is definately there, if it was a fuelling issue it would stutter forward beyond that point surely?? but accel just stops.
You know our cars always been an odd one (engine number, different front suspension mount, oddly quick feeling despite being a "low" powered one)
Would it be a good idea to reset it to 8k rpm then??? Can Cerbs handle these rpms relatively reqularily? (its used properly remember hehe)

TVR have set up the MBE to produce a fuelling hard-cut at 7750RPM on every Cerbie V8 chip I've seen. In fact it has been programmed in a slightly odd way by TVR to achieve this, and ignores some of the advanced capabilities of the system.
The MBE ECU itself is capable of much higher speeds than this motor can ever achieve, so you can have pretty much what you want in practice. It does provide the facility for soft and hard cut limiters, but TVR have chosen not to use the soft-cut. Personally I prefer a soft-cut about 150-200RPM before a hard-cut.
If you have the MBE remapped, then you can choose these values as part of the process. Apart from introducing a soft-cut limit, we usually leave the upper limit alone unless someone specifically wants it lifted.
Although the motors do still make good power up at that speed and can be productively allowed to rev higher, the stress and wear rates start to increase dramatically with engine speed. Therefore it is down to individual choice and risk.

Hi Kevin
I've actually never looked at a chip from a Speed 6 Cerbie, but if it is the same as a Tuscan of the same era then it has a soft-cut at 7400RPM, and a hard-cut at 7780RPM.
The Speed 6 chips are better programmed, and do make use of more of the features of the MBE ECU.
Out of interest (since we have been doing MBEs for years), it appears that the Speed 6 may be the easiest one to enable the Traction and Launch controls that ECU is already capable of. Testing is in the early stages at present though, so don't hold your breath!

Guess you refering to my car. My car is 370bhp+ as per austec rollers at the wheels. This was the 1st time on a track of any kind - with a better driver would have been quicker. The top speed proving was why I attended this event, I am going on the Cannonball 8000 on Friday and wanted to test the Hi speed ride of the car, wheel alinement etc. I think this car is quick - take alook at the top speed results at www.tv2005.co.uk. The car hit 174.88mph, lowest speed 169.5 this beat lots of other cars including M400 noble, 550 and 360 ferrari's and a GT3 and all the other TVR's by 10mph+ (3 cerberas, 1tuscan and 1 T350). I wonder what the top speed of this car could be? This was standing start along a runway, had top stop for breaking zone. I had two go's with the standing 1/4 mile and my efforts were not good - once I've learnt to drive I will have another go. I found that i had to change upto 4th appoaching the finishing line. In the meantime thank Austec.

You get to 7500rpm+, SOV goes exponential! if you wanna risk it, then go for it, but remember, its a flat-v8, when SOV goes critical, say bye-bye to your engine!
BYE BYE!
Please Note:
This applies to stock V8 Cerberas only!

Fair comment. You need a bit of practice. I'd never done a 1/4 mile in my life up until March this year (friends wanted to see how good the Cerb was!), and as I'd just had a demo ECU fitted to my car and it had upped flywheel bhp from 340-375bhp I just had to give it a run on the strip to see what it could do, and I managed a 12.9 first run which I was really pleased with. I only did 3 more runs thereafter but managed to get the time down to 12.5. The next time I went to Santa Pod I had had the Emerald ECU fitted and set up to my car and it was now producing 390bhp at the fly, my first run that morning was 12.512 @ 118.9mph which I was very happy with, 3 more runs resulted in getting the time down to 12.3 @ 119.1mph
. I've only been once more and only had 3 runs that day as it was raining and I was trying a set of slicks on the rear
, I couldn't get very good traction and ended up with a best of 12.57 @ 115.8mph, in dry conditions I think the car will do low 12s. I am more than happy with these results as I only went there to prove how well the Emerald unit works. A bit more practice and I am sure you will get low 12s with 430bhp @ the fly
. My days at the 1/4 strip are now done, but it's very addictive and I will be going back on the 25th Sept to watch some friends in their exotica. Jules.
