How to stop coolant hose coming off a straight pipe?

I need to either bend this steel coolant pipe or cut it, leaving some way to stop the rubber hose slipping off the end.
It's right at the back of the engine and a pig to get to once the engine is in, so it needs to be solid.
Any ideas?

A small amount of some decent heatproof adhesive such as Sticks Like S*** would do it, but you'd want to be careful. A better approach would be to flare it and get the rubber past the wider section unless the rubbers are old, in which case I wouldn't want to start stretching them.

Surely a jubilee clip like it left the factory is the right answer?

Firstly unless the pipe is very tight to get the rubber hose on no amount of clamping or snake oil solutions will help you. Interference is the key.

However if it is tight and you want added piece of mind:

Vulcanising glue, the stuff you get in bicycle tyre repair kits & a jubilee clip.

Coat the straight pipe in the glue, slide the pipe on & clamp it with the jubilee clip.
This should allow the rubber to grip the pipe & ensure it resists slipping off.

Do make sure you have a good overlap, at least 2” better 3”. The more area for contact the better obviously.

The best solution is, as said above to flare the pipe.

But this is a good second choice.

Get a couple of inches of hose onto the pipe, spotlessly clean pipe and new hose, back up the spring clip with correct sized jubilee, bet you'll struggle to get the pipe off again without slicing it off once the rubber has bonded itself over a few heat cycles,

Why not do away with steel pipe and replace it with 1 piece of rubber pipe.

In my own backyard bodge garage I'd try flaring that by stuffing a 1/2 inch extension bar down the end and beating gently tapping it with a hammer. The taper of the extension at the ratchet end should provide a suitable flare effect.

What size is the pipe? If it is 15mm a plumbing olive could be soldered on or a yorkshire fitting has a raised portion.

If the rubber hose is a good fit and the clip is decent it will never come off.

Looks like thickwall tubing so getting a welder to put a bead around the end is probably the easiest.
