It’s only the 7th January, and I’m already fed up with the month.
As I get older the more I hate the turning of the new year and the uphill slog of January.

It can’t be just me can it ?

I can empathise.

There is normally nothing immediately to look forward to, short days, rubbish weather.

We have taken to booking some winter sun for February to give us that light at the end of the tunnel.

January does certainly feel like the longest month of the year.

Shirley as you grow older you would be used to the changing seasons.
Makes no odds to me, in fact wintry weather makes for more interesting photography projects

I suppose you're either a positive person or a miserable scrotebag.

I was made redundant in December. Over the last 4 years my weight and mental health have taken a beating. I'm embracing January, a new year, a new start and a change (for the better) in my outlook on life.

I find November and December harder.

Once past the new year (well 21st Dec) days get longer and spring is only 8/9 weekends away.

November is a nothing month. Hopefully this year we will be going away somewhere warm.

Then maybe a sneaky week mid-January.

Benefit of being retired.

My parents used to go away for the whole of February in their retirement. Mostly to South Africa.

I don’t mind the winter so long as we don’t have weeks of dreary, dank, wet weather!!!! I love cold, bright days but the last few weeks have been awful. Have just booked a couple of weeks away to warmer climes for a bit of relief, we normally ski but Mrs Blue insisted we go for warm and dry this year.

January does seem to feel like it’s eight weeks long.

Look for the small things. Since becoming interested in gardening, I see the new bulbs poking through and the gradual brightening of the evenings. Small signs that spring isn’t all that far away.

As I’ve aged I’ve become less tolerant of the dull winter days but I try to look for positives where I can. Bright crisp winter days are something to savour and today felt like the most normal Sunday we’ve had for a long time, with a pleasant sunny walk and lunch out. It was a nice change to feel able to enjoy being outside and the prospect of spring being not too far away gives me comfort.

Love it, lots of birthdays in January, FA Cup 3rd Round. I don't do Christmas nonsense so have lots of spare cash. Snowdrops are out, crocuses and daffodils starting to grow. Looking forward to no Council Tax and Water Bill in February and March.

I've always found January a drag, everyone is in the office, darkest & coldest, post Christmas highs, and spring no where in sight!

Best thing about January is it's not December with all the season to be jolly BS forced down ones throats and the shortest day behind us. Spring is ahead, not far to go.

That's the dream in retirement for me spend the short winter months somewhere with sunshine. It doesn't have to necessarily have to be hot and sunny, I love skiing, being in the mountains when it's sunny is good for the soul I find.

January is a bit of a ste month IMO. There's a couple of family birthdays but after Christmas I find it's mostly wishing for lighter nights and longer days. Our kids are young so we don't like taking them out of school so it's not as easy to escape for a week or two as it once was.

WFH helps alot I find, back in the old days it used to feel like being a vampire, dark going into work, dark coming home and not much of a chance to get much natural light in between. Now I make sure I get out for at least an hours walk a day.

I think it helps to have something planned in, whatever that is, meet friends, fitness goal etc my Mrs has a half marathon planned.

Same here. Daylight already increasing and only about 8 weeks until the clocks change. I detest October and November though

This. You have to get into the mindset that you can't change January and can't do the things (in this country) you'd do in June. So, try to find something that works for you. Try to plan a couple of back up things to do if weather is too bad, get out in the sunshine if poosible, etc. Book some holiday and go somewhere?

This afternoon was the first I noticed the light clinging on for that bit longer.
We are well overdue some nice frosty crisp mornings though.
Feels like the darkest grey winter I can recall.

Been full of cold for the last week which hasn't helped

Have a look at a daylight calculator, gives a bit of hope, its accelerating quickly now

I’m not sure I care what the month is, it’s all about mindset. Get moving, especially outside, even if the weather is miserable you will still feel a lot better and be grateful for the days when the sun shines
