Greetings.
I'm planning a day of driving in South Wales this Saturday during the day.
I'll be starting from Herefordshire and have to be in Cwmbran by 6pm, but have the whole day to get in some top notch driving beforehand.
I've been told the A4069 is worth a look, but can anyone else suggest a good route, or have any advice?
I'll be in an underpowered new Focus, so would prefer something with lots of interesting corners as straightline speed leaves a bit to be desired. Corners like a beast tho.:)

Cheers,
Phill

Hi Phill,

A4069 is indeed excellent. Another one of my fave blatting routes is shown here:

http://tinyurl.com/8xqu6

Head north from J36 of the M4 (Bridgend/Sarn Park Services) on the A4061 towards Nant-y-Moel, across the Bwlch - that's the twisty bits to the north of Nant-y-Moel on the map - great view from the top:

Then down into Treorchy, through Treorchy and Treherbert still on the A4061, which will take you across the Rhigos pass (another great view from the top) and down into Hirwaun. Then take the A4059 (you'll need to click the top arrow on Multimap to scroll the map up at this point ) until you meet up with the A470. From there you can either head north a few miles and visit Brecon, or head south which will take you back down to the M4 at Cardiff (it's quick dual carriageway most of the way).

Enjoy!

I was just about to suggest a route from Ebbw (Beaufort) up to Brecon on the B4560 and then the B4558.

Used to do that run every morning and night when working at British Steel in Ebbw and staying in Brecon for a couple of months.

The other run I found towards the end of my stay was from Talybont (on the B4558) down past Pentwyn Reservoir and into Cefy-coed - although a little narrow for my M5 I thought.

In either case, watch out for sheep & goats.

May give that a go as well, depending on how early I haul my ass out of bed.

thats a good route, but if you take the 4107 from port talbot at the start signposted cymer it gets even better, it joins up with the route on the piccie above to drop down into treorchi
