My GF (her first year of driving) wrote off her car which was insured under my name and her as a named driver (I also have separate insurance on another car).

So I want her to get her own insurance, this time with her as the policy holder and me as the named driver. On the new policy, we're declaring her crash, but do I need to declare that I have a claim? Worried we'll get hit twice on premiums for one crash.

Yes.

When you enter the details of the named driver it'll ask if you've had any claims in the last 5 years.

It's going to be costly....

Yes, you will have to declare it.

It's another reason why this,

is a bad idea.

Insurance will normally ask:

“Do you have any accidents or claims in the last x years?”

You have a claim, your GF has an accident, so you both have to answer “yes” to this question.

She was still a learner when the car was bought and she did her test in it. Hence I was the main driver. I'm assuming here what you mean by "fronting".

Yes but once she passed it I assume she was the main driver?

Wifey had a claim on her car in June last year, adding her a named driver to my insurance in November nearly doubled my insurance………..So she is no longer insured on mine. Normally adding her reduces my premium even though she drives only a handful of times a year.

Bizarrely the increase in her insurance was less than adding her to mine.

You will have to declare your claim when you put yourself as named driver on her insurance, and also when you renew your insurance on your other car.
