Left stranded at the Shell station yesterday
with a flat battery. Got a jump start to get home
and on the display it was showing 11 volts.
Stripped the air box off today and put a new alternator
on, started her up and it is exactly the same around
11 volts also the big red shift light flashes every
now and then too but that could be coincidence I
suppose. Any ideas or suggestions gratefully recieved.

Cheers, Col

Have you checked the fusible link - situated in line on the main battery cable from the starter motor. if this blows then continuity is lost in the main battery feed

When my big 'fuseable link' blew my alternator light on the dashboard was lit constantly and my battery went flat. I stripped the air box off with the intention of changing the alternator but happened to notice the blown big fuse. I changed this first and everything went back to normal. Alternator and battery were both fine.

Would the car still start up though if this
link is blown?

Yes as the link is between the alternator and battery. The battery can still supply power to the starter.

Thanks for that I will have a look at it again
Tomorrow. How many times should I fold a Galaxy
wrapper to equal a 100 amps?

Cheers, Col

Fitted the new fuse link and all is well again.
I have to ask "WHY" though as I have never seen
this type of thing on any other car I have owned.
Normally you would expect a lead from the alt to
the starter solenoid and another from solenoid to
battery, the only use for the fuse I can see is keeping
the RAC an AA busy rescuing Tiv's from the side of the
road. If TVR want to improve reliability they should
delete this part and pass the 66p saving on to the
customer

Cheers, Col
