Just ordered a Garmin Epix to replace an ageing Fenix 3. Cracking deal from H Samuel online which made me reconsider the initial plan of switching to an Instinct .
Main activity will be hillwalking, with a bit of cycling. Anyone else use these?

DC Rainmaker has - as always - a detailed comparison of the Epix vs Fenix 7.

Great price compared to RRP.
Only negative I can see is that this is a "standard model" so it goes without multiband gps, pre loaded maps (assume you can still download them) and maybe biggest of all the sapphire glass.
TalkyToaster maps seem to be what many people use. OSM-based. £13 for UK seems a bargain.Only negative I can see is that this is a "standard model" so it goes without multiband gps, pre loaded maps (assume you can still download them) and maybe biggest of all the sapphire glass.
OS or Harvey maps would be handy, but I don't think they're compatible with Garmin watches.
Not sure about sapphire. My Fenix 3 doesn't have it and the face is mint after almost eight years of use. ~The bezel has got a nice patina, which I'll miss! However, that's not a touchscreen one...

Arrived last week, and I'm pretty chuffed, TBH.
Despite the same five-button layout to the Fenix 3, the UI is radically different, and it's taking me time to work out how it all hangs together. Display is very nice, and it's the first time I've had a watch with HR sensor.
I've ditched the Garmin Topoactive map and spent £13 on the Talkytoaster ones, which are a big improvement.
John Lewis have the Sapphire model for £150 more, which is also a good deal

If I follow the Garmin site correctly the only Epix 2 standard option at 47mm is the stainless bezel and black strap. Although the pics make the strap look more grey. How are you finding it as at that price its hard to look past it (H samuel showing out of stock now).Despite the same five-button layout to the Fenix 3, the UI is radically different, and it's taking me time to work out how it all hangs together. Strap is definitely grey rather than black - but they're easily changeable. My old Fenix was on it's fourth or fifth strap. (They're quick-release on the Epix)I'd have preferred the look of the sapphire one, as the steel bezel is a bit blingy, but I wasn't prepared to fork out that much more for it.

Took the plunge and ordered the Epix 2 Sapphire via the John Lewis sale (ends tomorrow) as by far the best price I found. £150 over the standard one via H Samuel but I prefer the bezel colour and liked the idea of the tougher glass, lighter case, dual band gps and 32gb memory. Only thing drawing me to the fenix was the battery life but the Epix will be a big improvement over my Forerunner 45 and the screen is so much nicer.

H Samuel offer now back in stock, it seems.
Bit O/T but am considering the Suunto Vertical, any thoughts v Garmin [I had a 5 I think]?

[Prob with Harvey's vs OS maps are Harvey doesn't do complete coverage, just mountains, trails etc., but they are the best map in terms of use and visuals I think, as long as you're not in the middle of brum]

I got the instinct 2X instead after having the original instinct for 3 years and having few complaints.
I had regrets yesterday when using it for navigating as it seemed to get totally confused in the fact that my route was a figure of 8 and took me the wrong route after the crossover, which was 4 km before I noticed I was heading home.
I’ve got a 100 mile race up the Pennine way this summer and I’m a bit worried about navigating with it now.

Loving the customisation options vs my FR45 which I am now off to sell on Ebay. Cant believe folks are paying £70 for a used one when they are £99 brand new with a warranty.

Good to hear. Mine just turned up. Glad they don't even offer the X size in non pro models so I didn't have to make a decision as regular is plenty big enough for my wrist. Already ran into a bug where Always On wont toggle in system display settings same for wrist gesture. Seems a common problem and soft reset (long hold of top left button) sorted it.

Make sure you've updated the firmware to the latest rev. There was a new release just a few weeks ago.Loving the customisation options vs my FR45 which I am now off to sell on Ebay. Cant believe folks are paying £70 for a used one when they are £99 brand new with a warranty.
