My BS detector alarm has gone off with this claim from a trader, but I don't actually know the answer myself! I asked a trader about service history for an ex-local authority Peugeot Boxer for sale (early 2017 year) and he reckons they don't come with any as they service them in-house with their own mechanics.

Anyone in the CV motor trade know the craic and whether I'm being spun a yarn here? He said he could email them to see if they could send it through, but I'm not that dumb to fall for that one.

I buy cars from the MOD which come with no history but they have always been serviced.

The servicing is all done in house by the LA I work for

Same as Police when I was in that

I watched a YouTube video on this recently. The OP has accused the MET or some other force of being complicit in 'mileage adjustment' where he has seen cars with certain mileages before going into auction then showing lower figures whilst on traders forecourts. He accused the police of knowing it went on but did nothing.

I know with Ex-Police vehicles they don't come with any 'paperwork' service history like you would expect with civilian vehicles as they are serviced in house by the police mechanics, so no invoice is needed and no stamps in a book as its their own vehicle, however I would assumes someone somewhere has a record of when and what mileage service work and repairs were done, its just getting hold of that info that may be a challenge

If you buy an ex public authority" vehicle you can make a Freedom of Information request to get the vehicles history.

My old force fleet management dept used to get numerous such requests every month.....a full record would be provided, which even included replacement light bulbs

Local authorities can have 1000s of vehicles its far cheaper to service and maintain them in house

Kent police and ambulance service did their own servicing certainly up to 2020 don't know about after that but i can't imagine that has changed. They were also self insured i believe so would end up doing repairs which would write off a privately owned vehicle.I bought an ex fire service Astra in 2022 however which according to the service book was serviced by the local dealer.
