Expecting manufacturer to replace engine of 8 year old car with 120k on it... yeh right nice try.

After 8 years and 80k miles I would have thought a contribution as a goodwill gesture is the best you’d ever get.
Asking for a new engine is optimistic.

There's quite a lot of nonsense in that story. He thought it had a 3yr warrranty? But then said JLR wouldn't let him take out an extended warranty due to the car's age.

"Design service life 122K miles"??

If your sprightly, perhaps 60 something aunt came too you and said, "I have moved to a cottage down a country lane, I am going to need a car, I think it will have to be a 4x4, BUT IT MUST BE RELIABLE - what do you suggest?

Would you say Toyota LandCruiser, or RAV4 - or would you tell her to buy a LandRover, for its reliability?

As suggested. Snappy crank 3.0 SDV6. The ingenium 2.0 wasn’t ever fitted to a disco 4

I love the opener:

"An architect from Cornwall who racks up hundreds of miles a year travelling to projects all over the region is stuck at home after his Land Rover's engine failed due to a "known fault" and the maker refused to help."

Hundreds of miles! Hundreds mind you. hehe No wonder the old bus gave up the ghost after that kind of annual battering.

And the wise words from JLR:-

"...parts may potentially fail at any time."
