Im on my 3rd Jag and I know from experience that aside from warranty work to not use jag dealers. Todays experience has reminded me why - its the first time ive been to a Jag dealer in years but new (used) car with warranty so…..

Drop car in at 9am . No updates all day. Call at 4pm - not had a chance to look at it yet. I call again 45 mins later , its ready to collect.

The fault - auto stop start not working and fault light showing. When i pick it up their master technicians diagnosis - your stop start isnt working and there is a fault light showing. I know as thats what it was booked in for ! Computer says nothing wrong.

Its below 6deg so we cant troubleshoot it. It was 5 deg and the manual says it works down to -2. My interpretation - we ran out of time so quickly plugged in the computer which showed no faults and as computer says no we didnt know what to do.

£260 charged to warranty company for that and told to wait for warmer weather to get it back in for another £260 diagnostic . Glad its the warranty co paying and not me !

Like you say it's your warranty paying and not yourself so at least it's no bother. I'm not au fait with JLR enough to comment on specifics but my experience doing Mercedes diags and a few other cars has taught me that for many faults no matter how small, (like this one,) there are rigid test rules that must be obeyed for diagnostic checks. Example, to test the correct operation of such and such, the coolant must be 90 degrees, the transmission must be in P or N, fuel low condition absent. If I was given a car with low fuel, you guessed it I cannot continue doing work in a way that a dealer tech would need to approach his work.

The functionality of stop start to the end user, such as working to minus 2 c could be potentially meaningless to the diagnostic system. Don't forget stop and start is a very cross check task for the ecu, such a seemingly simple task will often involve so many values from sometimes things you would not even imagine. Door open switches and bums on seat sensors are even part of S&S

The DTC could of been cleared by accident and depending on JLR maybe they could not get the fault code back, having shadow memory for such a non critical function seems unlikely? You will need peeps familiar with JLR to explain this better to you.

End of day I would not be happy if my fault wasn't INVESTIGATED fully and I had driven just to have DTCs cleared. Get bothered about it if it happens again and costs you time, money, effort etc to visit again would be my advice.

Always no good for anything that needs thinking about.
They are all set up for bashing the services through.

This is all mainstream dealers, not just JLR, btw.
