Fuel additives
Discussion
I used a Broquet Fuel Catalyst in my Nova back in the 1990s as the engine wasn't suitable for use with unleaded petrol.
Not only did it make it fine to use with unleaded, it ran more smoothly, stopped 'pinking' and the last time I had it MOTd before getting rid of it, a comment was made about how low the emissions were for a car of that age.

Used to use octane boost and lead additive in my old Triumph 2000, which stopped it pinking and running on (VSR wasn't too much of an issue on those old 6s, apparently)
No idea if they give any benefit to modern engines (petrol or diesel). Had thought about trying some injector cleaner in my discovery but no idea if it's a waste of money...

I always use Archoil diesel/petrol additives in my cars over the years. With the Z4 Coupe i had, the inside tips of the exhaust were always clean, never saw another Z4 that were
After my nephew's Audi A1 tdi had EML come on, which we suspect was EGR related, a can of full-cleaner and a couple days later, light gone and not come back yet, a few months later.
If it is snake oil, i dont mind spending £25 every now and then, as ive had good experience with it!
Now with my Swift Sport, i use a fuel conditioner, that when added to regular fuel, you get premium fuel cleaning power. Works out much cheaper than the extra 10/13p litre charged extra in my area for premium.

One of the manufacturers of a fuel additive started a thread on Pistonheads a few years ago.
They were asked politely to show their test results to prove that it did what it said it did, but they refused.
Eventually the manufacturer asked for the thread to be deleted because it seemed they either couldn't or wouldn't present any proof to support their claims.
Having said all that, I do throw in the odd bottle of injector cleaner once in a while. I have no idea if it does anything though.

I've used octane booster once.
I bought a vehicle and found it pinged / knocked at highway speeds, and I had a 700 km trip home
I filled up with 98 octane, which helped some, then added a full bottle of whatever octane booster they had at the servo, which stopped the pinging.
Did the same next fuel stop, which got me home without breaking the engine.
When I got home, I found it had been timed to a scratch on the pulley, about 10 degrees advanced from the actual timing mark.
Never used additives otherwise.

Seems a good place to chuck in this old posting re testing of Millers DPS4.
