Ive had 4 contacts from a piston heads add all with the same line:

1st message: still available, whats you best price?

reply: my advertised price plus £200 just to see if its a scam.

2nd message: The price is OK by me compared to another seller, I have read the advert carefully and am happy with your offer. I would like to proceed with the purchase immediately. At the moment I can only make payment with a bank cheque. After the cheque has cleared in your account , I will send my van ma to your address for collection. Please send me the following details so that I can send the cheque.

Obviously i block the scam buyer but would like to report the email address being used to PH to stop them trying the same thing with other sellers... but i cant find a report button????

How does the scam work? They collect car then cancel the cheque?

What if you demanded payment via bank transfer? I presume safer, but they'd just vanish the next scam?

I think the way it usually works is that they pay more than the agreed ask price and ask you to repay the difference… then everything bounces or is clawed back by the bank and no van ever existed!

...and as if by magic, another one appears:

this is what they ask for: Name to appear on the cheque, your full address to which the cheque payment should be sent: , Mobile phone number : , Agreed price

I reported 12 Mustang S550s on Facebook Marketplace as scams, based on them all being less than half the retail price and obviously dodgy. One was confirmed by the owner as having had his real advert and photos lifted from another site.

In every case, Facebook declined to remove any of them.

O/T slightly but the amount of nicked stuff on FB now is amazing! Not just vehicles but groceries as well!
