For the first time in a few months I went round to Mercedes Newbury and saw this.
When did that happen? I thought they'd taken a big Citroën in part exchange.
What happened to Bruno Secco's doctrine of "horizontal homogeneity" and "vertical affinity" and "a Mercedes should always look like a Mercedes"?

Not sure if that's an EQE or EQS? I had an EQE as a courtesy car last year and it was very nice, comfortable, latest tech, very quiet on the move. Needs a longer boot lid but I guess that would impact its aero efficiency?
At least it's not following BMW and Audi down the more grill the better rabbit hole.

I went back to check. It's an EQS, coming up a year old and yours for only £75,000 all but £1.
It still doesn't look like a Mercedes to me. Maybe the company used the advent of the EV to change course completely. I'm still amazed that the car has been around for a year or so and I had no idea of its existence.

But I agree they look very ordinary; nothing special about them.

Seems to have become a 'white elephant'.
EQS New Registrations;
2022 = 709
2023 = 388
Someone asked a main dealer, "Was this new showroom car specified here.?"
"No they just keep arriving", was the reply.
Do the dealers have to carry the financial risk, of being unable to sell their new cars ?
I think many M-B main dealers now appear to have a huge stock of new unsold EVs.
Have only been to a couple of dealers recently, but have never seen their showrooms as full before.
Could hardly walk between all the cars.
Noticed they still display information boards with each car, but they state nothing about the car, just the price and how much the finance is. Wondering about the engine for example, then try hunting for a sales person.
Stocking in the US seems to be even worse.
Surprising that an owner of a main dealer, should say that much publicly.
As you inferred Dicky, the EQE and EQS hardly look like aspirational, top of the range Mercedes-Benz cars.

Underlining this was the car existing at all and me not noticing. Even though I'm retired now I'm still interested in cars and still drive quite a lot. I guess they were there as I drove around and I just didn't see them. Subtle and discreet are good selling points, but invisible isn't.

I don't know if any of you have been to MB World Stuttgart - their museum.
It is phenomenal, a spiral building - starting at the top with the earliest cars. As you work down the spiral you go through the whole history of MB - highlights are obviously the 50's/60's designs, and the silver and grey 80's V8s - and then you get the the end: the modern day.
Its the closest representation on earth of a descent into hell.

I have never noticed an EQS on the road (if I did, I would probably look away), only at dealers.
Interesting to look at the M-B used list.
The EQS has a new list price of £105,000 to £120,000.
2 years old and a few thousand miles, retail price £60,000.
Just imagine what trade-in might be. "We don't want it", probably.
Of the 33 cars advertised, 22 are stated as Ex-demonstrator.
I think we can sense what is going on.
