I've built two smile

The first was for my son and daughter-in-law's cat, Fumo, to go on their 6th floor apartment balcony in central Geneva. Two cheap Ikea bookshelves screwed together, covered on all but one side with narrow-gauge chicken wire (scavenged from the barn at my French farmhouse 100 miles away). They can still use the balcony by sliding the door a bit wider, leaving the catio in place.

In the summer he is The King Of All Champel !

The other is in said French farmhouse out in Deepest Burgundy, for our two furry critters, though mostly occupied by a chubby ginger exotic called Sid.
In this case there was a deep reveal on the utility room window, so it was just a case of making a frame to screw to the outside boarding and stapling mesh to that. The unfixed window part I keep tied back to a kitchen cupboard with a loop of string, so there's no danger of any paws/tails being caught if the wind blows it.

If that's their happy look I wouldn't like to meet them when they're cross!

She is 17 and he is 2, so are quite an odd pair, both soppy lap cats. They tend to avoid each other most of the time, then have the odd scuffle and occasionally the odd cuddle up together on the sofa.

Just found this thread. I put mine together myself years ago. Built from panels from an old poultry run. Check FB marketplace and EBay etc. There are people who make and sell panels fairly cheaply too do you can build your own size with the option to extend.
Also enquire with local rescue centres/kennels/catteries if they have anything they might want to sell if they’re upgrading.
I have a second pen section too which has a reception area, two side pens with double insulated and heated kennels each side with lighting. These are thousands. Luckily I was given this. The idea is to join the Catio that comes from the French doors to this by way of a high walkway. I’m yet to do this.

How it started. I’ve since added a two storey wooden playhouse to the side as an extension

You can see the larger pens through the door behind the wheel here

The larger pens

The most expensive thing was the cat wheel and that only cost me £100. The rest I scoured marketplace for. Free conservatory furniture, surplus artificial grass and plastic plants etc. Total spend will be less than £250 for sure.
