Just a heads up folks, am still searching for an M240i and doing my homework, was quite surprised at some of the insurance costs i was seeing. I know insurance has rocketed but i've got 10 years NCB and i'm getting mad quotes.
Any way, i checked BMW Insurance direct and it's coming in much cheaper (£200+ saving vs Compare the Market). Not sure if anyone has used before so welcome feedback but if not, and your insurance is due, might be worth checking with them. Didn't even know they offered tbh.

More expensive on our M340i and can't pay for a full year as far as I can see, seems to be aimed at short term needs.
Just for a laugh I added our 20yr old daughter on the comparison sites and they wanted an extra £6k.....Adding her to my Boxster S would only be an extra £500 - go figure.

I'm at the yearly insurance search time so am checking options for my 128ti. Last year was £880, renewal with Admiral is £670 (£200 less!). Confused shows options around £600 and BMW is £50/month.
BMW seems to actually make sense here? I've never used them before though and normally pay yearly. Is BMW insurance really any different to any other insurer?

I’ve been with LV for the past few years but mid term last year I changed my 320D to a new M235i Gran Coupe. Although the renewal this year wasn’t too bad a price I decided to shop around as didn’t really know whether the quote for the new car was in the right ball park.
Anyhow, I ended up moving to the BMW insurance - price was only about 5% more than my renewal but what convinced me was the fact that if the car is damaged, it can get repaired by a BMW workshop. Just gives me a bit more confidence I guess.
Just in case you don’t know this, when you obtain a quote, you have to move on a step (as if you’re going ahead with the policy) before the ‘additional’ options of NCB protection & legal cover are uncovered at additional monthly cost.

Yeah I saw that. Strangely reducing voluntary excess from £250 to 0 made zero difference to the price. Given that it's the same price as the cheaper insurance options elsewhere it seems obvious to give it a go especially given it's monthly so I can change at any time if it gets cheaper elsewhere.Just had a quick look on the back of this thread as renewal coming up next month.
Usually pay up front so looking at the usual comparison sites, Hastings premier coming as cheapest with all the trimmings at circa £550 paid in full versus BMW insurance at £694 for the year based on monthlies.
I don’t tend to use Hastings though usually going with someone like admiral or LV and these quote circa £700+ but not sure if it matters?
Not too bad me thinks for what is possibly slightly more premium insurance through BMW would you say? Using their bodyshops etc?
Or is the BMW insurance extra £££ not worth it?
Ps, this for G87 M2

Sheila's Wheels was cheapest for me.
I dumped BMW Flex insurance when they switched to Highway, and they won't insure modifications either, ANY modifications what so ever. That won't bother most folk, but if you want to address some of BMW's chassis shortcomings with better products, you're stuffed.

Last year i paid a ridiculous amount for my M4. I was seriously considering an engine map so spoke to some specialist insurers and ended up with Keith Michaels. My cost came down a massive amount this year anyway, probably because i remembered to turn off auto renew, but Keith Michaels were still cheaper. The big difference though is how they operate. With all the companies i'd used previously like 1st Central they are very much online based and charge if you call them etc. Michaels is the opposite and very much a phone based operation. I requested a quote online and a guy phoned me back and we chatted it through. I did that well in advance of renewal and what really impressed me was that when i phoned them back 3 months later they put me through to the same bloke and I've been dealing with him since. Competitive quotes, don't just add a zero or two because it's an M-car or modified and very easy to deal with. Would recommend
Moved away from BMW Flex as no longer competitive. Renewal time for me as well.
Has anyone noticed that compulsory excess across providers is creeping up and up? It used to be £150, but now it's £250/£350.
Interesting that Aviva Zero appear to have zero excess, and coming up as lowest premium on comparison sites for me. 5 star de-facto rated as well. Other than it being online/app only, what's the catch?

Aviva were cheapest for me too, however out of principle I’d never insure anything through them ever again.
I was driving other half’s car as a named driver a couple of years ago under an Aviva policy. Involved in a non fault accident with a third party who after hitting our car, paused as if to stop & then took off at speed. Luckily we had dash cam footage which we managed to get reg from. Aviva initially agreed that it was an ‘open & shut’ case due to dashcam footage & pursued as a non fault claim. Third part was insured with Aviva commercial through a broker & basically delayed any response. After 18 months they settled 50/50 & basically stated that they wouldn’t be contesting. It was an absolute s
t show from start to finish. Furthermore, the repair job was shoddy, I rejected it twice but by the third time the Mrs didn’t want the hassle & accepted it. To this day every time I look at her car I feel the rage building up, having to accept the position & live with a crap repair job.
Aviva - never again.
